NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Well in theory the 3090 will be the best silicon, so it’s possible that it could boost higher.

Yeah thats its only hope but at the same clocks its only going to be 20% faster maximum. There is no way it can be any better.

I mean thats the same gap as the 2080ti was to the 2080, its just the price gap is way too big this time.

You are counting the same performance twice though.

Lowering settings lightens the load on the frame buffer *and* the GPU. Just adding more vram *and keeping the settings maxed* would not net you the same fps gain because the GPU would have more work to do.

Yes, it would, because the settings in question are textures which almost strictly hit vram only and have minimal fps impact.

I suppose so long as the cost to swap is not different then it doesnt really matter about how much your 2080ti has lost. yes it would have been ideal to sell a month ago but if the 3080 performance had come out at 2080ti prices, it would have still cost £300-400 for people to upgrade.

I guess I could have sold but then what do I do for 2 months with just onboard cpu graphics?

Your claim would seem to require a more detailed understanding of the game's coding than we have access to.

What information are you using to reach such a granular conclusion with this game?

I get a decent FPS bump in PC2 with my 11gb 1080Ti when I go from high textures to medium....and the buffer is under 6gb of usage on high, so the FPS isn't coming from vram.

Yeah.. you already got ripped off once too. Why would you do that to yourself again? :D HAha just messing.. I got ripped off too last gen..

I don't feel that way to be honest. I got a 2080ti for VR sims at launch and has let me play any racing sim pretty much maxed out (ACC being a diff mess altogether). With the small discounts OCUK was giving at pre-order, i maxed out the price floor. At the time, higher spec 1080ti's were only a couple of hundred less. Of course cheaper and more power would have been great!

Also I was coming from a 980ti so the bump in performance to me was amazing lol

So are people saying FS2020 will be crippled by the 3080s 10gb ram, or only if you play at 4k?

I think there is a lot more going on than vram capacity with MSFS2020:

I did say a while back the competition this time round was the consoles and this is what Linus agrees with:

See 6:38mins

Which does mean the only really why prices are good and performance fantastic is because we are on the cusp of a generational jump courtesy of the consoles.

I did, why don't you read my post all the way through? Where I specifically said higher quality textures have a higher load on the GPU. Obviously if you lower texture quality you lower demand on the GPU and your frame rate goes up.

Already explained, very politely, 10 times over. I block the wilfully ignorant, nothing personal.

Exactly,. Its probably the same difference to swap in price (unless you were buying a 3090). I said the same thing to mate once who was bragging that his 2 bedroom house he had owned for two years had made him £100k as it had gone up from £200k to £300k. I asked him where he was moving to and he said to a 3 bedroom house in the same area. He said the 3 bedroom house was £350k. So I said you havent actually made £100k then, you would have only made that if you were selling up and not buying another house as 2 years ago that 3 bedroom house probably only cost £230k so in reality he had just paid an extra £20k to buy it.

Pretty sure the gap at 4K was more than 20% TBF. You might be right, but I’ll be disappointed if you are.

Financially better off, but disappointed.

My logic although flawed is my 2080 at 8GB VRAM.. so its gimped.. so might as well upgrade to the 3080 with 2GB more VRAM and superior speed, and sell my 2080 whilst its worth something... or am I being silly?
Yep silly. Sell it and buy a 3090! :p:D

Interesting so all the people gloating about how they sold their 2080 ti's before the announcement of the new cards might be in for a nasty shock.
I sold mine on Facebook market place, last weekend MSI 2080ti for £800 cash . The buyer was local and keen, I could not believe it.
Been expecting him to knock round and try and return it. If he waited till Monday he would have got one for considerably less. Talk about a right time to sell. I'm absolutely ecstatic.
