NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Not sure why there's so many comments slating people who are looking to buy stuff on finance.

Everyone's circumstances are different, so it's not for anybody to judge, and this is coming from someone who buys in cash.

I'm more interested in hearing people talk about the tech :)

It's fine. The 3700 uses 220w. A good 600W PSU is way more than enough with your CPU.

Nvidia's requirements assume a power hungry 10900k which by itself can use 250W in short bursts.

I'm relieved , I have Corsair gold 600w

I dream of a 384bit 12GB 3080 Super. Look at those empty memory slots just taunting us!

They kept them empty until they are "needed" :D.

I'm with PrincessFrosty on the lost knowledge thing esp re VRAM. People have forgotten that the core usually limits you first and more VRam is not a silver bullet.

Any news on when pre-orders are open for the 3080? Or do we just wait until the 17th to order???

Are you blind? It's been stated many, many times :D

Hi there

The NVIDIA 3000 series including RTX 3090, 3080 and 3070 are now ONLINE at Overclockers UK for your viewing pleasure.
You cannot place pre-orders yet but you can on the following dates:
- 3090 September 24th 2pm
- 3080 September 17th 2pm
- 3070 October

We expect good volume on these cards and the performance on offer is absolutely incredible and the pricing is even more impressive, NVIDIA have an absolute HIT on their hands here, these cards are going to sell in their thousands especially as they are launching in peak season and offer performance vastly beyond anything else with some incredible feature set and many USP's.

Dang it.. :D

Thanks for not completely ripping in to me for that!!

It happens to be my Birthday on the 17th, so will have to pre-order one as a pressie to myself (the best kind!)

Sounds good to me! I'll be right there with ya, I'll call mine a 4 month early birthday pressie to myself :D

Exactly. People are starting to go OTT and equate VRAM = performance. Your bandwith is going to limit you likely before your VRAM does. Very rarely will your VRAM save you from upgrading.

I suspect lot of people will need to buy a new psu along the way.

Good thing I have an 1000w PSU from running my 290's in xfire a few years back but I be placing my 3090 in my media pc which has an sfx 750w PSU which I purchased in February. Should be enough though.

FE version look appealing at £659 even though I’m not mad about the design and that splitter I think they will sell fast though even just after 2 I think most will be gone hope their website holds up

VRAM Is a hard limit though which is hard to get around. If you run out of performance on the core there are many settings you can drop but with VRAM it's only textures and resolution really.

My 2gb Gtx 680 ran out of VRAM before I was unhappy with the performance I was getting so I won't be making that mistake again.

This. Plenty of times powerful cores have been held back by VRAM. A very famous example is the 8800GT 256MB,long before the core ran out of steam, that SKU ran out of VRAM. In my modded games,I found my GTX1080 if it breeches its 8GB limit, performance can go south, and the GPU wasn't at 100% as FPS was capped to 60FPS in those instances.

Yeap 295 and 690 were beasts but vram gimped them. I wouldn’t buy a 3080 unless your gaming at 1080p. Any higher than that then forget it. Obsolete in around 12-18 months.
