To dishwasher or not to dishwasher?

The key to a happy marriage for me is eliminating the little things with dishwashers and sat navs :)
A lot of little things can be eliminated by putting them in dishwashers, from iPhones to wedding certificates, to your wallet, to her yappy little dog....
I don't see how that would actually help the marriage, though.

Just buy one. Seriously I can't imagine life without one now. I would rather wash my clothes in a river than have to return to washing dishes in the sink!

Can't believe you've not used it :eek::eek:.

When we lived in a flat, it was the worst job to do several times a week was washing up. We cba washing up every night after cooking, so plates did used to get piled on the side or in the bowl.

When we moved into our house the dishwasher has been a blessing. In fact i think i've washed up maybe 2 things since moving in.
Wash up as you go to leaving it is so slovenly.

Doing the dishes is my little bit of sanctuary each day. I pop a podcast on my phone and get to have a few minutes peace whilst the Mrs and child are in the living room.

What would be my excuse with a dishwasher?

Modern dishwashers are meant to be more efficient and use less water than hand washing. It'll just take cold water in and heat what it needs.

I can't believe you've got one and not used it for three years such a great labour saving device :o
will use way more energy though.

I nearly always hand washed you can hand wash in pretty much the same time it takes to load a dishwasher...

I have just used one for the first time, I had 2 loads worth of stuff needing washed (I had it stored while new kitchen was put in)

everything is now pristine and so shiny and it doesn’t suck the soul from your body Like hand washing does

I've had a dishwasher for over 2 years now
would never look back.

all you need is

good tablets
rinse aid
salts

so much easier than washing up. normally load the dishwasher throughout the whole day and then take them out early the next morning.

erm? I don't need to read that to know it's rubbish.

how can a dish washer ever be more efficient than doing it by hand? is this guy boiling kettles to fill the sink or what?

one uses electric to heat the water, uses electric pumps to spray the water, uses a heat cycle at the end that takes what? 25mins? of electric heating up your stuff to like 65c

somehow more efficient than burning a few calories and doing it by hand? I doubt it.

let's face it your not specifically heating water to wash dishes because your going to have your boiler hot enough for at-least one shower or bath

I can't believe a dishwasher is more friendly to the environment either wish the size of dishwasher tablets and the amount of salt you need to keep adding to the machine every other week.

no problem with people who prefer them but no way are they more efficient than doing it by hand

how many people spot a bit of dirt still on a plate or two because they overloaded or stacked the dishwasher wrong? then they decide to stick it back on for another run

one bottle of persil lasts me like 6 months, dishwasher tablets I would be buying every 1-2weeks and salt probably once a month if I only ever used the dishwasher.

I always found washing up therapeutic but I would do it at the same time the GF get's the kids ready for bed so it was like a nice break :D

You wash up using cold water?

I just don't see how it's cheaper. No way is it cheaper to use a dishwasher than by hand.
1 bowl of hot water via the boiler, Vs hot water via electric is not going to be cheaper. I'd guess I use about 10 liters each wash. Takes about 10 minutes.

Mine uses about 1kWh (which costs 12.6p) and 13 litres of water on a 50c eco cycle. No salt required, rinse aid lasts ages and you can get a pack of 80+ branded Finish or Fairy tablets from Amazon on offer all the time, or get cheaper ones from Lidl/Aldi which also do a good job.
