NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Do you have 2x 2.1 screen though only 1 that really needs it is lgs oled ?

That will work yes, but your TV must be then have full passthrough of the audio codec you're trying to get to the reciever and the reciever needs to support e-ARC

I asked the same question a few pages back, and was basically told that there is no such thing as over the top / overkill. It will be nice to run 144/165 1440p stable with all the graphics options maxed rather than having to mess about with dropping options to claw back some FPS.
That's my aim.

It's all well and good saying the 3080 is overkill, however, at the moment I'm using a 2080 and yes, in some instances it will reach my monitors max refresh but 90% it hovers much lower. A more powerful card will allow me to reach a higher average (or consistent) frame rate.

I did get over this with my 2080ti by installing a 1050ti and sent the audio down that and signal to the TV

Anyone think the 3080 is over the top for gaming at 1440p (16:9)? I'm starting to wonder if I should just get the 3070 for my needs...

At this precise moment yes, you could argue it is, but the question is for how long. With games like Cyberpunk coming, that may well struggle on a 3070 with all the eye candy dialed up.

Also obviously depends what kind of refresh rates you're after. If you only have a 60Hz panel and aren't interested in higher then again, a 3070 is probably more than enough.

No

Even if I am wrong and you continue gaming at 1440p, next year or even the year after that higher gaming requirements will mean that the 3080 is then perfect.

Getting a card that is too fast for a given resolution only lasts for a while but it also means you don't have to keep upgrading if you keep buying the bare minimum each year.

Game requirements have increased a lot in the last few years even @1080p, I remember the original NVidia Titan with 6gb VRAM, there are some games I would not want to use it on even at 1080p.

I like over 100 in FPS games and over 60 in sight seeing games / sims. I plan to keep the card for 2 years.

Can confirm I see up to 6GB VRAM usage in Control at 1080p (normally 5.5 ish on average), however, I'm guessing the RTX goodies are having an impact on the usage too.

Hope to grab a 3080 when they go up, just not sure on EVGA or Zotac, usually always go EVGA cause they allow cooler removal (or used to anyway) but warranty on Zotac looks good

I'm worried about the width on most of the cards with a o-11 air case. Would have to go for one not that wide but there isn't an enormous amount of choice. EVGA and Zotac seem ok. Yet to see whether the Gigabyte Gaming OC would work. I think I'd actually quite like the Innno3D iChill X4 - imagine it won't be popular because of the manufacturer but that card looks like a mega cooler. Even if wide, the power connectors seem recessed enough into the card that it might fit but idk...

Not considering the FE?

I'm so out of sync with monitors (scuse the pun :D) ... at the moment I have a 27" IPS 1920x1080 monitor.

How would I know what monitor to buy for the 3080 and one of the new Ryzen CPUs?

I'd need a monitor for both photography editing and Flight Sim 2020.

Photo editing you want IPS, either freesync or gsync though you’ll pay a premium for gsync.

For your needs. Ideal is a 1440p Ultrawide IPS panel. I wouldn't worry about >60Hz because you don't need that for flight sim. But you will find most monitors that are 1440p UW are already over 60Hz anyway.

get a wide gamut monitor

Dont think this has been shown yet. Stock lands in China stores. Now we just need to see the OCUK pyramid with Hamburger.

and apparently the 8 on the 3080 is written upside down on the FE edition (rumour not confirmed)

Only gaming focused ones. Dell have been selling standard 60Hz 1440p ultrawides for years under the U34xxW naming scheme. If you don't need higher than 60Hz then you can pick these up relatively cheap.
