How is a 1080ti performing now at 1080p?

I've had my gtx1070 for 4 years but it obviously isn't the top of the range from that series and it does struggle with some games now at 1080p.

Im holding out for the 3080ti if it happens with hopes that it will last roughly a good 7 years at 1080p. I'd go for the 3080 but with the time span I'm hoping for on the card I don't think the vram will hold up as long.
 
If you are after 7 years good service out of an upgrade you probably want to be buying new. I'd wait to see what AMD have to offer and/or the price point of a 3080ti... I think your 1070 can soldier on for another 3 months or so.

The cards will be severely cpu limited at 1080p. Both cards will easily do 1440p 144hz without much issue.

3080 or 3080Ti will last 7 years at 1440p 60hz never mind 1080p.
 
So what does a cpu bottle neck mean? this is one of the things I don't understand so well. I was looking at the i910900k.

Never mind. I'm starting to learn more now. So basically I should only buy the 3060 or 3070 for 1080p gaming. The games I play are building games where there is a lot of cpu calculations but I do play fps games too.

At 1080p 60hz it will be fine but if you really wanted to push the card both cards would likely do 360hz 1080p that’s where the cpu can really struggle to keep up.

I would be aiming for 1440p 144hz or above with these cards personally even a 1080Ti can do 100+ frames at this resolution.

Essentially it means that at the lower resolutions the cpu load is generally higher. Something like a 3080 or 3080Ti could probably push out hundreds of frames at 1080p and a cpu can struggle to keep up as games usually don’t utilise all cpu cores to their maximum, so you end up with a bottleneck (if pushing that many frames).

My 1080 gets 100fps on some games at 1440p 144 let alone a 1080ti, WOT I get 130-140+ FPS, PUBG 130 fps etc,
 
That'll make it harder for the CPU as it has to feed the GPU more frames :D
But I'm lead to believe that a gpu doing all the work is better for the cpu so if the gpu is having to push more frames then then the gpu is working harder?

The more the GPU needs to add to the frame (shaders, shadows etc) and the higher the resolution of the frame the better it is for the CPU
The more frames which need to be fed to the GPU makes it harder for the CPU
