How many years will 8gb ram last at 1080p?

I'm struggling to decide on a gpu upgrade. I am using a 240hz 1080p monitor with gsync.

If I had a higher resolution monitor I think it would be easier to decide but I don't like anything bigger when it comes to monitor size.

Im looking to get the i9-10900k looking at the 3070 but I'm not sure about the vram if I want to keep it for four years.

I can't put the money towards a 3080 as I game at 1089p so it would be pointless and a huge bottleneck on the cpu side.

But unless you're needing the more cores ... would that not also be pointless to an extent ? Games aren't using much more that 4 at the moment, and likely will level out around 8 cores over the next few years due to consoles.

True on more then four cores. 90% of steam games still run on 4 cores and 4 threads max. But it's the AAA tiles here now and coming in that will .

Know there's a lot of hope with next gen consoles using zen3 that multicore will be implemented in OC games.. what will happen is 3rd party developers will do a p*** poor job of it requiring faster cores ... Hopefully Zen3 steps up on that :)

True your cpu will bottle neck a 3080 and a 3070 but it will increase your fps which you will need it your chasing 240hz .

Also it has more vram which you was concerned about.

I'm really stumped now as to what cpu and gpu to get for a new system that will future proof me for a good 5 years I use 240hz but I am happy at 144fps. I bought the monitor for the quality over the fact that it is 240hz and can cahnge it to 144hz in the Nvidia cp settings.

Unless playing certain flight sims you aren't going to come close to 8GB at 1080p for quite awhile yet. At 1440p I see maybe 5-6GB of actual VRAM use worst case and most stuff is way below that.

I would go for at least 16GB right now to be honest. I'm thinking about going from 16 to 32 very soon

EDIT: Sorry I thought you were on about vram

vram not system ram.

But on the subject of system ram I will be buying new 32gb ram too.

I'd say today 4GB vram is becoming obsolete.
So likes of GTX980, R9 380X, R9 Fury lasted 5-6 years. And really, even if they had more memory, their performance was obsolete for a couple years now.

8GB of vram for now is pretty good. Even the new RTX 3080 only has 10GB of vram. So yes 8GB of vram will last a good while. I'd imagine the next 6 years ish but you'll probably have upgraded your GPU by then...
