NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Miners dream - that'll mean gamers will be in competition with miners for sure. 70w more power but X2 hash rate...or was it 4x better?

2 I think lol, but you can pretty much guarantee it will probably go over 320w, was just reading a 2080ti goes 20w over Nvidias official TDP in gaming that is.
 
I heard differently that almost every card available on launch IS a reference card. Custom boards will come later.

I cant believe only one or two manufacturer, esp with the base models, arent using the reference boards giving to them by Nvidia.

If true then makes it a minefield for waterblocks as all the waterblock manufacturers have only made blocks for "reference" and "FE" boards so far.
Going by what Jacob said (again) the reference design costs are incredibly high and it's cheaper for AIBs to produce their own PCB hence why AIBS appear to not have many reference cards. Could be wrong but Jacob is normally very reliable.
 
Does anyone know of any 3080 AIBs that are the same length, or smaller, than the FE (285mm)?

I currently have a 279mm card but believe I could squeeze in 285mm, will get the ruler out tonight - below are pics of the system, the PSU has been since switched to a Corsair SF600 which I'm confident will do the business.

I havent seen a single card as small as the FE yet. The Fe really is a tiny board in comparison to the AIB boards.,

That's like INTEL claiming the 9900k was 95W, when infact it ran a lot more than that. The 3090 will run more than 350W

They say the FE is limited to 350w and the non FE are limited to 320W. Custom cards with custom power are not ready yet.. the OC leaks show only 2-5%
 
I was all set to get the fastest 3000 series card to match my CX48. Thought about it more, and no way am I spending £1500 on a 350W monster. I'll wait to see what AMD's flagship card is all about, in the hopes that it's superior manufacturing process (TSMC 7nm) results in a far lower TDP card.

My Radeon VII is 295W - I'm not keen on anything more power hungry, mainly due to the heat output in Spring/Summer.

Using boards with 320W power limits.

I do think these arent going to be great overclockers.

When EVGA lists their second top flagship FTW ULtra card as having a pre overclock of only 1800 so only 90Mhz above stock then you know we arent going to get a lot for free overclocking with these cards.

The 2080 Ti ROG Strix was pre-OC'd and that was only 30MHz over the FE clocks so I'd hold fire on this kinda judgement until we see reviews.
 
Two questions. Hopefully some kind soul can help me with the second, even if the first one is probably unanswerable right now:

  1. Do we have any information about BIOS power limits on the 3090 and 3080 cards: NVidia FE, AIBs with all the different SKUs? (It was confusing during Turing as most manufacturers quoted bios limits as a percentage of base power, but base power was not consistent between different boards!)
  2. Can anyone send me a link to a table comparing warranty policies (duration, location of RMA / service center, tolerance of user mods such as fitting a waterblock) between the different AIB partners? I remember finding such a chart when I was Turing shopping.

According to this the power limit for AIB 3080s is 350w with the founders cards being 370w

The 3070 should be a very good option for 1440p high refresh gaming and is only 220w so a 550w should be just about ok.

It wasnt. It was 105Mhz OC.

A Standard 2080ti was 1545Mhz and the Asus ROG Strix was 1650. The later special edition white ROG STrix was 1740Mhz and the ROG Matrix was 1800.

More to the point, last time the EVGA FTW Ultra was a 205Mhz pre-OC. This time its only 90.
