NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Think so. They tend to have periods out of stock however. I'm expecting this to happen fairly quickly on release but we'll see. If the 3090's are plentiful it'll make me think there's something better coming later.
What can they release thats better though without taking power draw above 400w?.

Why for a 1440P 120HZ display?

Just wasting 300 quid for no extra performance.
As games get more graphically demanding, minimum framerates will decrease. Pushing a constant 120hz min framerate is something that even a 3080 will struggle to do even in many current games at Ultra settings.

If that is the case then good luck to all the 4K owners thinking the 3080 is the 2nd coming of the messiah.

Haven't we got beyond the point of setting everything to "Ultra" now and then complaining that performance isn't good enough?

Thanks to Digital Foundry and Hardware Unboxed, they often go in to great detail about how "visible" certain settings are vs their hit on performance.

The FE was 1635. Like I said, only 30 MHz difference.

I hope you're wrong and they OC like champs...

FE was pre overclocked. Standard default clocks were less. Fe boards always have more power than standard AIB boards.

I still think looking at the FTW Ultra clocks that these cards arent going to have much overclocking in them.

Hence why I'm out, I'm perfectly happy gaming at 1440p which the 1080ti is still blasting through so it just makes no sense to upgrade if it can't do 4k 60 for 2 years.

I think Jensen needs a new leather jacket.

Is it just me or do these modern RTX games look totally totally overdone? They just have so much reflection and refraction they look totally fake and really rather unpleasing to the eye. It cant just be me? Subtlety is key to these things and the amount of reflection and forced lighting they are pouring into every scene is just ridiculous. Id rather have it look more realistic, less unsettling / jarring and get an extra 50 fps with less reflections.

I have to say as more days go on I do feel less enthused to pick one up. Guess we'll see tomorrow.

Maybe the right call would be to get another 2080ti in SLI (this is for rendering not gaming)

Ray tracing is literally making a scene more realistic when done correctly.

Yeah I’m waiting eagerly for tomorrow. Could do with a touch more power but can happily get by with what I have if the 3080 is not a great deal faster than 2080Ti. 3090 is tempting but it’s just too much. If it was 2080Ti pricing (£1000-1100) then I may have bitten but at £1400+ that is a lot.

If the 3080 was 50% faster than 2080Ti then I very likely would buy one. But from what I’ve been reading we’re looking at around 30% which isn’t staggering and not really enough to warrant an upgrade for me. However it’s not ludicrously priced so wouldn’t cost much for a bit more power. Will wait for reviews tomorrow before deciding.

I'm in 2 minds whether to go for a 3080 over the 3090 now! I game at 120hz 3440x1440 but also use the gpu for video encodes & productivity. If the 3090 is going to only be a slim margin faster than the 3080 at twice the price it doesn't sit right with me.

Of course there's extra heat, it's a 320w card at stock the highest there's ever been.

The watt to performance ratio Jensen and his leather jacket were talking about is nonsense, we've gone from getting new gen cards requiring less power and more performance to almost the other way round, it simply tells you Nvidia is using brute force to push them hence the new coolers lol.

Ampere is 30-35% more performance (3080 vs 2080 Ti) for 30% more power draw. The performance per watt gains are miles away from Jensen's sly claims.

Also, the other sly thing is comparing 3080 to 2080. RTX 3080 is a higher tier class of GPU than RTX 2080 in terms of it being one up, as GA102 compared to TU104. The correct comparison for architecture improvements, is GA102 vs TU102 (2080Ti), and GA104 (3070) vs TU104 (2080). Ofcourse the 3080 is going to be 60-70% faster than the 2080, it packs massively more transistors, SMs, FP ALUs.

30% faster only but with gimped 10GB memory and even worse power draw/heat than a 2080 Ti. Cancel any ideas of picking one up until reviews.
