NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

3080 Ti would be more expensive anyway. The only people it might annoy is 3090 buyers, but those buyers want the best regardless of price and that will still have the most unlocked core and most VRAM.
That all depends on what AMD brings to the party because if they match or better a 3080 and have more VRAM then it will be hard for nvidia to increase the price much as there isn't much of a performance gap already between the 3090 and 3080.

The 1080ti replaced the 1080 at its pricing bracket and that card had a 25% performance increase but the 3090 is looking to be 15% so the 3080ti would have to be less than that and no one is going to pay $1000 for a 5~10% over a 3080 with a bit more VRAM especially if AMD are offering a similar performing card with more VRAM for less than a 3080.

My guess the 3080 would be price cut by a $100 and the ti would fill its old shoes at $699 like all the other tis have baring Turing.

I'm not sure why people are so sure there's going to be a 3080 Ti and not just a 3080 20GB. The 3090 has replaced the Ti IMO. VideoCardz said again today that there's a 20GB 3080 coming according to AIB partners, likely as a response to Big Navi. So if there's a 20GB 3080 on the market and a 3090 with 24GB that's only 15% faster, where exactly does a 3080 Ti fit in?

I'm in two minds on this gen. Thought Turing was a complete waste of time and Ampere only looks marginally better.

It seems the 3070 will give me a reasonable boost over my 1070, but the stingy amount of vram will probably cripple the card in two years time. I tend to keep my cards 3/4 years.

So not sure what to do.
Wait and see what AMD does.

Agreed.

The 3080 Ti would just be a 3090 with a few SMs disabled. Just like the 1080 Ti and 2080 Ti.

The 3080 has 68 SMs whilst the 3090 has 82 SMs.

For comparison:
  • RTX Titan has 72 SMs and the 2080 Ti has 68 SMs.
  • Titan Xp has 28 SMs and the 1080 Ti also has 28 SMs.
3080 Ti would be 95% of the performance of the 3090.

VRAM isn't a measure of performance. 1070/1080 had 8GB, 1080 Ti has 11GB and Titan Xp had 12GB. Not that different but completely different classes of cards in price.

This ampere launch is looking more and more like an AMD Gpu launch.

Wait, I thought this was a AMD launch? Hot card(s), check. Dodgy marketing slides, check. Delays on mass availability of stock, check (pun not intended). Complete and utter guessworks being banded about by everyone, Check. Yep it is deffo an AMD launch... :D

The difference being is that the 1080 and 2080 had a much larger gap of around 25-30 of the Ti but this time around the 3090 is only 15% ahead of the 3080 so if a Ti is released then it would only be 5% slower than a 3090 but how could they then charge £1000 for a card that is only 10% faster than a £700 3080 and at the same time 5% slower than a £1500 3090.

If AMD puts out a card that is 10% faster than a 3080 while having 16gb VRAM and also costs less then nvidia will be in a really sticky situation.

I am very suspicious of these leaked reviews..

The only "real" review was that of digital foundry, and that showed a 80% increase to 3080 over 2080..
Are we all now thinking that was fake?

DF have always been trustworthy
You can mislead without lying. For example.
Besides, DF is an Nvidia-sponsored outlet, and their hardware testing has always been subpar and lacklustre. I wouldn't assign any credibility to them. They just have nice production values & that fools people. Tough, we're a shallow species, so it is what it is.

No point trying anymore mate, they just believe what they want.

You know I'm kinda hoping stocks are delayed, if AMD came out with a GPU within spitting distance of the 3080 which is being reported but it's too early to tell, It will more than likely have 16gb ram and 100-150 quid cheaper I would jump on it simply because the market needs shaking up, everyone loves an underdog.
