OcUK Ampere RTX3000 series review thread

I think what was telling is that at the end of the HW unboxed review he said ampere is more of a compute architecture rather than a gaming arch which is probably why the gaming benchmarks are not that great while for mining these cards look very good.

Will hold out for Big navi and 3090 benchmarks first but seems the 3080 was all hype, 1fps more in MSFS lol

I think considering its CPU limited in some games at 1440p and MSFS runs on DX11 it doesn't really show its full potential and would be a poor game to focus on given its a flight sim that doesn't require that high FPS to play to begin with. Its between 30-75% faster than a 2080 & 20-30% faster than a 2080Ti which isn't too shabby at all for the price.

Being objective and not jumping on the "only 30% faster than 2080Ti at 4K" because this is exactly the performance I expected. Though I do find it very perpelexing that people keep falling for the Nvidia BS on hype.

Having said that, this is great performance for the price. Though that power is a problem, Nvidia gambled they could save some bucks by bluffing TSMC and failed and now they are stuck with an inferior process. They have a GPU that is seriously power hungry and it is clear all the efficiency saving went in to the performance. Nvidia's greed and arrogance could be their undoing this round.

Everything pretty much as expected from the leaks. No decent upgrade path for us 2080ti owners.

~15 fps increase, nothing to get excited about even with low fps 4k gaming. Probably can be gained from overclocking the 2080ti or dropping the "distant ballbag rendering" setting from ultra to high/medium.

It seems, from what i can tell, a good quality 650w PSU should have no issues with the 3080, so I'll probably wait until black friday or new years sales, see if any decent comes up, no panic f5-ing from me tomorrow.

The performance over the 2080ti is kinda within my expectation. I dont get why there seems to be so much surprise here. I'd be mad if they had announced the pricing to be the same as 2080ti launch, but for 650 (for FE at least) the performance seems to be pretty damn nice imo and definitely is a worthy upgrade from 10 series.

If i were a 2080ti owner, mainly a recent one, I'd be upset, not at the performance of the 3080 relative to my new 2080ti, but more at the price people can now surpass it for. I definitely wouldn't sell my 2080ti for it. My days of having to have the newest, latest and greatest are well past me now.

I'll be grabbing a 3080 asap, because the price:performance ratio at 700 or less (I was initially prepared to pay a grand, pre announcement), is very very worth it to me.

Pretty sure Flight Sim is heavily CPU bottlenecked as for some reason it was developed with DX11 support rather than 12.

Well roll on DX12 then, they say it will be DX12 once its ported to Xbox? looking forward to 3090 benchmarks, see if that can do any better for the huge price?
