Just recently recieved a bill from thrifty car rental for damages to a vehicle.

The damage involved ;
Dent to front bumper
scuffed wheel alloy
dent to rear bumper
Stump guard cracked.

I have attached some photographs.

It seems hell a lot of money for such small amount of damage.

Has anyone had any success/joy in disputing these claims?

I guess the obvious questions, is that damage that you have caused, or damage since dropping it off? If the latter, i assume you've taken your own photographs to confirm the condition at the point of return?

If it was damage you have caused, then presumably you took out the insurance to protect you from such claims?

If it was damage you have caused, and you didn't take out the extra insurance for this, then i think that comes down to a very expensive lesson.

I can't see you getting anywhere with disputing the costs. Normally rental companies run a fleet with fairly newish vehicles, and are likely to go direct to a dealership for repair work, so these huge costs get passed onto you.

That "dent to rear bumper" looks to me like a dent and scuff to the bootlid. I'm really not sure what I'm looking for in the 2nd picture though.

Also, I'd imagine that an alloy could be anywhere between £800 and £2000 on it's own as a part.

I have to deal with these from time to time for work. Try and fight your case, use hyperbole and they'll likely knock off a good chunk but they won't get rid of the whole thing.

This seems odd as there is a £1500 excess on most cars rented at thrifty. Why are they asking for the full value? Are you an overseas visitor or was it an exotic car or something?

Surely a scruffy alloy would be returned rather than replaced?
