I am currently building my son (15 soon to be 16) a PC for his Xmas/ birthday present.
would like some advice on if the build is any good. Going to be for mainly gaming and school work hopefully last him a couple years before upgrading.
currently own a few parts as follows:

case: silver-stone primera sst-pm01w midi tower white.
Ram: Vengeance rgb pro black ddr4 3200mhz.
mobo:Msi Mpg x570 gaming plus amd.
CPU cooler: hydro series h100i platinum white rgb.

now part i am considering:

CPU: AMD 3700x .
GPU: NVIDIA 3070.
psu: corsair 750 gold modular
m.2 wd 1tb
ssd: Samsung 1tb

thank you for any advice tips

If you can wait for Zen 3 - then i would swap out the CPU for the 4700X/5700X(sic) equivalent to the 3700X.

Corsair RM 750w series is great - quality, 10 year warranty and reasonable price and covers 3070/3080.

Your 1Tb WD Blue for £110 is a good choice for NVMe - but which Samsung SSD(?) as the WD Blue SSD will shave some money.

nothing wrong with that, especially if you don't need 3070 for a while.

For the drive just get a single 2TB Adata XPG SX8200 Pro NVMe - can be had for about £211 delivered.

3700X is a good CPU choice, but if you can hold of a few weeks on the CPU the Ryzen 4000 (Zen 3) are being announced 8th October. So may as well invest your money in the equivalent later in October.

PSU I'd grab the Corsair RM750.

The new Ryzen CPUs (zen 3) are just around the corner. I would wait for those as even if you decide not to go for one of the zen 3 CPUs, the current CPUs may become cheaper.

ty no rush on gpu my lads nan going go halfs on it for xmas
Before Christmas also AMD has new graphics card out.

ssd: Samsung 1tb
Samsung drives are all more or less heavily brand scam overpriced.
Like that inferior QLC Flash tech 860 QVO, which should be clearly cheaper than TLC Flash SATA drives of others.
Not costing same as TLC based NVMe drives cable to lot faster performance than TLC SATA SSDs.

the current CPUs may become cheaper.
Current Zen2s will become cheaper with release of Zen3 just like 2018's Zen+ CPUs dropped last fall.
No one would buy old model products at new product price...
(except Intel fans)

Yeah, I agree. They will almost certainly become cheaper. I was just thinking of possible reasons why they may not such as the gen 3s being too expensive (hopefully not).
