You can't buy an Asus 9900k, Evga 3950x, Zotac PlayStation 5, Palit iPhone, KFA2 tesla or MSI xbox.

If we are reaching the stage where nvidia and amd are adding decent coolers to their gfx cards, then the extra steps of sending
Cards to aib's to fettle with should end.

AMD's new cards will come with aib stickers on the coolers, save warranty, nothing of value will be added. Zotac have bested this, having nerfed their power delivery and thus performance (lol), the other aibs on the whole want more money for similar performance as FE.

Nvidia are dodging the hate for this mess, the you tube shills linus, Jay, Steve and Steve aren't saying boooo about this mess

I miss the days some companies made actual custom cards - I had a few Gainward Golden Sample cards, etc. which were considerably different to the reference cards such as higher speed memory chips, completely different power supply circuitry as well as a custom cooler, etc.

TBH if Nvidia actually had enough stock to meet supply AIB sales would be in the toilet. The only thing that was really holding back FE cards was the cooler.

Outsourcing sales via AIBs keep help Nvidia's headcount low, much better for share price to be considerd a tech company rather than retailer with some added value. Lots of customer service aggro is dealt with by AIBs too.

Not sure if serious or trolling but will give the benefit of the doubt...

The reason why some of the companies can get away with penny pinching and actions which are deemed anti-consumer is exactly because of lack of competition in their space. When only one company offers the product you want, it doesn't matter how much you may despise their support, their ethics or their design. They could even release a completely flawed product but because they're the only people manufacturing it, those that want one still need to buy from them. They also get to price it however they want.

Competition forces companies to innovate. Manufacturers are forced to change their design, use better components, improve their support and warranty and try to keep prices competitive (in relation to the reference RRPs and those of other AIBs) in order to stand out.

These are all good things from a consumer standpoint.

As FE editions get better coolers and edge closer to AIB performance, the pressure on AIBs to not just churn out the cheapest product they can increases.

Moreover, the choice of different models at different price points with varying overclocking ability, fan noise, performance etc. affords users choice to ensure they get a card that suits both their requirements and their budget. Stripping that choice from buyers and forcing them to only buy one or two Nvidia models is silly.

We need more competition in the PC space. Not less. Only through this can we ensure AIBs stay honest and accountable and are incentivised to deliver decent products. Otherwise what we end up with is Intel.

Yep my EVGA 670 FTW was such a card, came on a 680 PCB for extra headroom.

Competition sounds brilliant, reminds me how all the Aibs are competing to lower prices, what was I thinking, lol.

Horrendous for those who like reporting on how many gold bits their card has and the crazy wattage they can pump through it with a custom BIOS.

Not hearing too much bragging as the current owners thread could fit in a taxi, maybe we will hear more when they upgrade to needing a minibus.

When NVidia start selling SKUs like the one below I will take the title of the thread seriously.

Until then....
