Why are people holding out for a RTX 3080 with 20GB VRAM?

You will pay through the nose for it, GDDR6X is new and isn't cheap... Wouldn't be surprised if the price was about £200 higher than the 10GB version.

If the price was only £200 higher i would most likely jump on one...

As that would make around £550 cheaper then a 3090 ;)

Well, its a better option in value terms than the RTX 3090, but thats not saying much.

20GB of VRAM would be needed for 8K I bet, maybe even more since it is around 4x the resolution of 8k. But neither the 3080 nor 3090 can handle 8k at a decent framerate.

It's like putting lipstick on a pig

My prediction is they will be From £850. Maybe less depending on what AMD come out with!
This is partly why I'm going to cancel my 3080 preorder. Going to wait it out

When games I want to play start using more than 10 and it can't be fixed by dropping a setting or 2 I will just sell the 3080 and get the 4080/4070

If you can get one, and then an 8k display, with gsync? Realistically whatever can do 3440x1440 144hz + with ray tracing, hdr and gsync is as good as you will get

Wouldn't it be a bitch if they brought out a 3080 20 gig version, then a few months later released a 3080 ti with 20 gigs? Wouldn't put it past them.

But more then 10GB is needed for 3440x1440 & 4K ;)

Yes i agree that 20GB is to much, But !! 10GB is not enough

8k gaming is totally pointless unless you happen to have one of those £100k+ 100" 8k screens, or you sit within about 2 feet of your TV! I don't think anyone needs to worry about 8k gaming, short of just ticking an epeen box!

10Gb will be fine in most situations on current games but you can already go over 10Gb with Mods, so on new games, I just can't see 10Gb being enough for much longer long, depending on your usage. If I got a 10Gb card now, I would probably need more vram in a year or so and I prefer my cards to last 2-3 years minimum.

People keep going on about vram, isn't that what the new i/o feature is meant to solve? Seems similar to amd's hbcc so might not be an issue.

Why wouldn't you hold out? People are holding out anyway. Getting a 3080 is luck at the moment at least for a couple of months. Then perseverance to get one by December.

Most people don't give a **** and will wait out until stock is readily in supply, card quality is known and other cards are released.

No rush is there? Not like this is at all important in the grand scheme of life.
