NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Big mistake. Given the size and heft of the 3090, you could have used it as weapon against the masked zombies in the Covid-round-2 apocalypse!

Yeah, that or economic hardship will cause huge inflation and people who were responible and saved their money like me will have their savings massively devalued over time. Means its also tempting to just blow a lot of it while it still has value now...but maybe not on video cards that depreciate so fast...maybe...

On the status page it now says: "Processing Order." Until today the status was like yours where it said "Order received - not yet shipped" I think. Or maybe there was a status in between that and this, can't remember.

What time was your order on the day, if you dont mind me asking?

Not to mention we're steadily heading into a recession. Despite this though, the demand for these cards don't lie... people are still spending
its not steady dude, we are right now in a deeper recession than the Global Financial crash of 2008. It might be some individuals are not feeling the effects of that right now or its simply not visible to them. I agree though there is certainly demand for these goods that is undeniable whether they are worth it or not is another question.

I ordered the MSI Ventus at 12:13am. Now on the 'My Orders' page it says 'Awaiting Dispatch' and within the order's actual page it still says 'Processing Order' under status and 'Awaiting Dispatch' next to order status under the Payment Method bit.

Maybe Nvidia really diddnt produce many 3080.

Here me out, pre covid-19. 500 people would be all over a new gpu,

Today say only 250 are as the other half got made redundant etc.

Nvidia then only makes 200 and then you get the impression that despite covid-19, there's a large demand for the gpu...

There's a lot of people, especially in cities, that can work from home. That alone has allowed massive savings not having to commute and pay the premium price for lunch/dinner/beers.

Indeed. I have several friends who have saved several hundred pounds per month in commuting costs and no family holiday costing several thousand pounds this year and are twitching to buy some toys with their surplus money,.

One friend bought a Porsche for weekend fun with his savings, so whats a 3080 or even a 3090?

There's also a lot of people on furlough that have been on 80% pay (some have had their wages made up to 100% by their employers). It may well be that many of them haven't been going to the pub, club, or restaurants so often, and haven't had travel expenses to/from work. Therefore they may well be feeling as well off, or even better off than they were back in February.

Wait you mean 2:13?

Well congrats, i think mine is about 100 ventus cards behind yours, im kinda setting my expectations for mid to late Oct at this rate, I think Nvidias talk on supply is mostly PR

Forgot about drinking,. I have another friend who stopped drinking cause he couldnt go out from March and with the savings has treated himself to a new £4k road bike. He said he never realised just how much he used to spend going out drinking every week in Newcastle.

Nope it was 12:13am at the retailer (not OCUK) who accidentally listed all their cards at midnight.

Another retailer, not ocuk, allowed all their 3080 cards to go live at midnight by accident and they honoured all the orders so come 2pm they had none left.

I had an Asus Tuf in my basket for 5 minutes and decided not to bother as really wanted one with three power connectors. Wish I had bought it now lol

Same, we had £4k into virgin holidays for our honeymoon to Orlando as shes never been before. 2 weeks before we were scheduled to fly, it got cancelled, thankfully we got our money back. I had another £4k saved for spending money while we were there but obviously due to lockdown i had nothing to spend it on... So here we are spending it on gpu's and watercooling :p

jonny, can you please maybe run your posts by someone else before hitting the submit button? Just to do basic things like make sure they are legible and make some iota of sense.

I can imagine even though not indicative of entire population as a whole, not even remotely close to the majority of the population, there's probably a lot of us who have had huge holidays cancelled with a refund, saved on fuel/travel/train cards, restaurant/bar/pub spending hugely decreased.

The only huge impact covid19 had on me was limiting my shipments into the country and delaying me processing my orders to customers. I took a lot of deposits and in the end had to refund them as people weren't willing to wait indefinitely for it.

Was demand so high because the 2000 series was such a poor value/performance proposition that the vast majority of Nvidia gamers skipped it?

Its just a paper launch, Nvidia did it for the 1080, the threads from 2016 read pretty much identically to the 2020 threads.

They have done it to suck up all the pre-orders before the 6900XT arrives, now thousands of people are locked into a 2 month wait for their 3080 cards who won't order a 6900XT.
