Ampere... what a disastrous launch!

Just been told by a friend of a friend who wanted a card, he was going to pre-order as he was building a new system for MSF 2020, he called and spoke with a member of staff (not going to name the SI) at the place and explained the scenario hoping to get all the parts at once, they said if he ordered the system from them he'd get his card way sooner and effectively skip the queue entirely as they are prioritising full builds not one off cards.

Talk about shady for anyone in a queue, pretty sure the place isn't the only one doing that either.:mad::mad:

Doesn't surprise me one bit. What would an SI want to do? Sell a single GPU for a tiny profit... Or sell someone a full system with a good margin on it?

Stupid thing is now he's not ordering anything from them, so I'll end up building it for him instead, once Zen3 lands that is as he was going for an i9 system and since he can't get a card there is no hurry. DOH!

Smart move imo! Zen 3 + 3080 should be a winner combo.

Better tell him to get his 3080 pre-order in then, or it'll be Zen 4 he'll have to build with.... :D

Haha, I said the same thing, but if it comes to it we can just pop his GTX 1080 in for a few weeks/months/years. :D

Absolute dung heap of a launch imo, am I surprised? no.
Firstly we get the **** taken out of us with the 20XX series price/performance wise then this debacle....
What I can't fathom is why they didn't delay by a few weeks/months and have ample stock of something that clearly had a massive interest - I've sworn on these forums that I'll only buy used / B-grade again after Nvidias previous taking the **** out of us - but, no. I wanted one of these!
Instead, we end up with overwhelming demand for a commodity in short supply, shock horror, said commodity has shot up in value, and the "bargain" price that initially enticed me has vanished....

And there was me thinking Nvidia had realised they'd taken us for mugs and made amends....
I'm keeping my 1080ti.

chuckled at an american post for feedback for Nvidia's public apology, the guy said why are Nvidia giving cards to a small chain called microcenter I think it was, they only have a few, 19 outlets in the whole Usa, their store in New York (Pop: 20 million) had 13 3080. Says it all really. In the US they are calling for a pre-order, with say a $20 deposit. Yeh it was a paper Launch!!

Ahh a normal person who says it as it is, not fully turned by the mindshare! :D

Some of the smaller places only got 2 cards apparently. Some of the bigger places had a lot more though.

Imagine a large superstore or a big unit that can churn out hundreds on a day with people queuing, only having like 9 to dish out.. lol I mean I bet the staff that work there all got first dibs.

The NVIDIA store went from notify, to pre-order, to out of stock in a couple of seconds lmfao.

So yeah I don't fully believe the scalpers / bots story.

Personally I think they have also played the artificial scarcity game to drive up MSRP prices.
