Recently had my head turned by the 8V RS3 in the lovely Arla Blue. I then found out that these cars can run 10s in the 1/4 mile easily on 99 octane with a few bolt ons(intercooler, downpipe, intake and a remap) pushing circa 520bhp.

They seem to be holding strong value in the used market, I would be looking for a 8V FL car that does not have the new GPF/OPF filter that mutes the noise.

Are their any owners on here that are familiar with the platform? For an everyday car is this worth considering? Currently in a Stage 1 A45 and considering switching over!

Also confused as to why so many of the RS3's have poor spec, barely any seem to have panoramic roofs, upgraded sound system etc!

Thanks all for input

That sounds useful.
Don’t be like that, there must be loads of times you are just minding your own business and then you have to race a Dodge Challenger to the next level crossing. What would you possibly do without a ten second car?

It'll probably be just as boring as you find the A45 but with a slightly more interesting engine note.
This. Judging by your other thread you seem to be focusing on numbers too much here when really you want a more involving car.

Surely putting similar mods on your A45 gets you similar figures? I'm willing to bet if you drove the RS3 and yours back to back you'd never be able to tell the difference.

By all means if you want a change of car or if you want to shave a fraction of a second on your 1/4 mile (how often do you do this?) then go for it. But i'd say you need to stop looking at figures and just look for a car that you enjoy driving.

They will sing your name and hoist you onto their shoulders every time you walk in. You're finally going to do it slick, you're finally going to be the fastest man in the pub.

They have poor specs because they're either leased or are bought by people who lick a slice of toast every day in order to afford them.

I'd be put off many of them as you know they've been leased, launched regularly etc and no doubt sometimes not even up to temperature. As the people leasing can struggle to afford them, cheap parts get used or things not changed when they should. No data or proof to back this up of course, just worth noting. Stronic box is the main one with it's fluids and the filter. Some changed yearly, arguably overkill, others probably never done. Not cheap should it go wrong.

I didn’t think it was a massively popular car that was leased, poor spec is likely due to people buying on PCP or the like and not being able to afford the extras. Granted not hugely different, most will still have handed back or sold at the end of the term.

So many near to base spec models when I was looking at them, most at least had the B&O stereo either on its own or part of comfort and sound pack, sports seats and pan roof harder to come by.

I dont see it so much people not being able to afford the extras as they are not always good value for money in the judgement of the person buying the car.

TBH it always makes me laugh that people who are looking at second hand cars moan about people buying new ones not specing loads of options.
I mean why doesn't the person buying second hand put their money where their mouth is, and go and buy the same car new and all the options.
Its the same argument, its just one person sees more value from a new car as opposed to options and the other sees more value from an older car with lots of options. One gets to decide which cars will be ordered, the other gets sloppy seconds ;)

sports seats and pan roof harder to come by.

Good job both are pointless options then! The Super Sports Seats are nothing more than a fancy back that makes the headrests non-adjustable (the actual contour of the lumbar region of the seat is the same, and the base is the same), nothing like the old ones in say the B7 RS4 where the top-end seats were actually fantastic and a world apart from the "normal" sport seats in the cooking models. Pan roof just makes the car top-heavy, so given you are buying for performance and not comfort, why would you want the panoramic roof, if you want to be able to see the sky, get a convertible and live with the other compromises that convertibles bring.

These were the decisions I came to when speccing my S3 from new.
