3070 or 3080 for 1440p 144hz

3080, with all the bells and whistles turned on and high refresh rates. 6 months time is when you'll get one at this rate, so tie in nicely with the cpu upgrade :D

I am tempted to try and get hold of a cheaper 3700x around the time so would be a pretty exciting period!

3080 it is.

Waiting on 3070 reviews as more my price point and wanting for same reasons although I already have the main components updated (3700x here).
My next two items were new GPU and a 1440p monitor at 144+
Hope 3070 can handle it as really don't want to up the price and possibly have to replace my PSU

If you are planning on 1440p @ 144hz for the considerable future then definitely a 3070 would be the most value. More than capable of doing what you want it to - my 2080 runs 1440p at anything from 80-110fps on average and its more than enough right now.

If even a tiny part of your mind thinks you might want to dabble with 4K within the next 2-3 years then probably a 3080.

No I am most definitely happy at 1440p though I do wish to enable all bells and whistles - Ultra and RTX etc.
