3080 DOA - RMA - Expectations

I usually just buy from the cheapest and it's hardly ever ocuk. They get it cheaper for buying more and then sell it on for more. Double greed :D

I generally do this, I'd like to buy from OCUK but the price difference is usually a lot more than a tenner. Build an entire system and it could be hundreds.

I'm in the queue for an MSI Gaming X OC and this has made me slightly nervous.

But no way should anyone have to go to the back of the queue for a faulty card. It's ridiculous and I would never object to someone ahead of me getting a replacement card in these circumstances.

Looking at it one way you could say 1 in 8 are faulty looking at the owners thread. :D

I would agree with you if you asked for a replacement but if you asked for a refund I dont see why you should then be at the front of someone else if you are then buying a new card.
Then again this is the risk you must accept for a new product like this when there is no built up stock. We knew stock would be low before they were sold and the demand was that high stocks would deplete.

Understand the frustration but then again there was no backup if it went faulty or DOA. Unless you could buy 2. :)

I've requested a replacement, not really interested in a refund and re-order as explained earlier. Totally accept the problem with stock from manufacturers and accept the wait, but would expect replacement on next stock delivery, not to be placed at the back of the queue.

I found this was the case when speccing a full build for my brother a few months ago.

OCUK was my first port of call and I priced up a build.

Due diligence meant I checked other websites for the same build (bar the case and memory (same spec though)) and the difference was not insignificant, with OCUK being more expensive.

So, had to go elsewhere.

At one time, OCUK would have been cheaper, times have changed.

I think you need to shout louder.

its common sense really - shop around for the best price we as a consumer dont do it enough.

My sons PC builds the bits I needed were sourced from 3 different places due to price and also location as I could go pick them up from one etailer.

Customer privelege.

Hang on, does op want the same card as a replacement or a different brand, I can maybe understand going to back of queue if going with a different brand but if op just wants another msi ventus same card then he should be put to front of that queue?

I just want a replacement, not looking for any special treatment. If I was to cancel and request a different product, that would be different and of course would expect to go to the back of the queue.

UPDATE
I'd escalated this with a manager yesterday and have since received an update. I'm hopeful OcUK will sort this soon. Fingers crossed and I'll update when I hear anything else.

Agree with everyone that it simply isn't right to be pushed to the back of the queue in this case. Surprised there has been no response to the thread by one of the active OcUK team to help resolve.

Not a 'good look' for OcUK and supposed excellent customer service...

It was never the same since "Bailey" left, I too had to push and push for a good result with OCUK ( 2070 issue ). No Customer service is not as good as it used to be

Hi there.

Not sure if im in the right thread but I want to purchase a 3080. Its on pre order but if I buy it now, would it give me a date when it would come such as November etc etc.

I'm looking to upgrade from a 1060 i7 8th gen to a 3080. But I just dont want to wait long for a 3080. Otherwise I'll just buy a 3070 just to get it quicker , but a 3080 would be nice

Thanks

You won't get a date, no. Incoming supplies are scarce and that'll last for weeks if not months; once that dust settles they might be able to give estimates. It'll be a while.

That said, what resolution and refresh rate are you running at?

I bought an alien ware monitor the other day. I'm on 240 hz ( the new 2020 model) at 1080p. Not really interested in 2k or 4k cause I knew I wud either get 3080 or 3070 , but my friends are telling me to get 3080. I play a lot of lol , csgo, valorant , cod and mmorpgs. And also wanting to upgrade for the new game that is hopefully going to come out: cyberpunk . I just want everything to run buttery smooth. My psu is 750 plat 80+ so I dont need to worry about that. I think its time for a major upgrade to have a more immersive experience , the 1060 isn't cutting it for me for ultra high settings in single player campaign games.

What ya think? Shud I wait for 3080 or just get 3070

Ocuk customer service is top notch. thats why i buy from them because they are reliable, Obviously the strain of this new card release has them scrambled all over the place.

1080p just isn't that demanding to run, and sure up to 240Hz will put more demand on the GPU but don't rule out the CPU, it'll be a major factor in frame rates at that resolution. Remember that benchmarks show it does better over the previous gen as the reoslution goes up - it's really a high resolution card and not that good at 1080p. So no, I wouldn't consider something as expensive as a 3080 for that resolution. So yeah a 3070 or a 3060 if that's coming might be a better fit.

Yeah if you want like for like replacement you should be at the front, good luck :D

*** Update 14-09 ***

I escalated my query with a manager and thankfully OcUK have sorted the problem and I'm very relieved with the eventual outcome. I believe delivering excellent customer service is still high on OcUKs agenda but I guess they have been overwhelmed the last few days - as you can imagine.
I will obviously still need to wait as stock is scarce, but I won't have to wait from the back of the queue. Thank you OcUK.
