Morning folks, I’m currently running a 1660 Super Gaming X and have purchased a Rog Strix 3080 (none OC). How much of a leap forward will this be? I run triple 32” monitors but only 1080p 144hz. I’m not fully clued up on all this stuff if I’m honest so thought best to ask people who are.

the 3080 really dosn't do to well at 1080p the cpu really does limit it.

your look at a much higher frame rate but the 3080 really stretches its legs at 1400p and exp at 4k for 1080p gaming its really overkill

Ah ok, so maybe look at changing screens for 1440? To be honest I only play iRacing and Flight sim but the 1660 is horrific for flight sim, turned down and still only getting 25fps

from my understanding everything is bad for flight sim:) single thread cpu usage is causing major issues.

i feel to get the best out of a gcard like a 3080 1440p 144hz is minimum somone sould have. 4k numbers are also pritty impresive from what ive seen.

ive order a zotac 3080 tridant oc card myself really waiting for the stock to come in. i perosnlly use a 1440p 165hz agon va monitor and it love it :)

you’re on form! I clearly don’t look hard enough when searching these things, many thanks

Haha no worries, was only a 3 second Google search. ;)

If you want a nice 1440p screen, I can highly recommend the new Dell S2721DGF - if you can grab an NHS/Student discount code, you can get it for £331 delivered from Dell directly.

1440p res, IPS panel, 165Hz refresh rate, G-Sync compatible, 3yr warranty and great build quality. :)

Edit: I wouldn't rush for a new display though tbh straight away. If you're happy with your triple 1080p setup. Just see how it runs and if you're happy still with it @ 1080p. Unless you fancy upgrading to the 1440p world.

It’s relatively new to me, as all of this is, I think I’ll need to possibly upgrade CPU at some point as I’m only running a i7-9700K (not OC’d) as I watched a YouTube vid and had it running at 5.0ghz and shut down mid game so set back to standard as I really didn’t know what I was doing

9700k is a fantastic CPU mate - you don't need to consider upgrading that at all lol.

Don't worry about OC'ing it either if not comfortable, even at stock it's a great CPU.

Ah well that’s good to know then, I kind of get suckered into these newer more expensive things and automatically think I need them

Haha well I’d say you should be very comfortable with a 9700k and 3080 for a long time! Easily good few years, more so with 1080p.

But if you upgrade to 1440p (don’t rush) then you’ll also enjoy that I’m sure :p

If you ever need a sanity check on upgrading, ask on the forums here! Lot of us can reassure you if it’s a stupid idea or a no brainer. ;)

Actually I had a thought on this, as I use Nvidia Virtual surround my resolution is 5760 x1080, is that still classed as 1080p
