Cyberpunk is the big one for me, but I bought Control preemptively and really want to play it
Fallen into the "can't play any games until my 3090 arrives" trap

Yeah I have Asus ROG 1080ti , I'm gonna be patient with this card and just wait till it randomly arrives at my doorstep, Right now I only play 2 games, MW and Fifa 21 (when its out) so I don't really need that much power yet. I was just disappointed when I was told the Gaming X Trio wasn't in stock on launch day. They only MSI card they had was the Ventus version of the card so that was a bit frustrating. Hopefully I'm gonna find out more about my order and roughly when to expect the card to be in stock and ready to be shipped. I just thought it was time for an upgrade, I tend to upgrade my pc every 2-3 years.

Don’t know how many of you have seen the issues arising with boards that carry all Poscaps and no MLCCs? JayzTwoCents explains it well here: https://youtu.be/x6bUUEEe-X8

It’s definitely worth finding out what the configuration is on the card you ordered. It is unclear at this point how many of the 3090 AIBs mirror the configuration of the 3080s that are failing.

I checked the images of the Strix ROG 3090 and it is ALL MLCCs (best possible configuration), so if you ordered that card, you are golden. But it appears like the Gigabyte Eagle, and some of the more ‘budget’ end 3090s are all Poscaps, and that is going to lead to crashing until the AIB partner updates the BIOS to clock it down and make your card slower.

EVGA has made a statement to the effect that they tested prototypes with an all-Poscap configuration, but it failed in real-world gaming scenarios. And so they switched to using MLCCs. Ouch!

More headaches is all any of us need at this point, but if it were me with an all-Poscap card on preorder, I would be cancelling it.

Well i better get my Msi Gaming Trio 3080 with the fixed caps or i gonna be ******.
all this time we gotta wait for this to happen it would be a nightmare, i looked at even the gaminng trio msi card has one of the mlcc`s missing infavor of the cheap caps. :/

You only need ONE MLCC array for the card to function properly. The other five can be Poscaps and it’s fine. The MSI cards look like they’ll be okay.

I'm late to the party as didn't order until yesterday, so I'll be waiting a while for mine!

Asus GeForce RTX 3090 ROG Strix Gaming OC 24GB
OC4048445)
Date ordered: 25/09/2020 16:48:08

Will be for 4k and VR gaming. I was sat on the fence for ages between this and the 3080 but the extra Vram will come in handy for supersampling in VR.

I'll also be using it for streaming from a solo PC so having Streamlabs set to Nvenc for streaming and gaming at the same time will at least utilize those extra cuda cores as well.

Bit of an upgrade from a 1080.

So I ordered an EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra today.

Does anybody know how the EVGA FTW3 Ultra compares to other AIB cards, like the STRIX OC?

I cannot find any reviews on the FTW3 Ultra except for one in another language.

Did I make a good choice?

Steve at Gamers Nexus took three 3080s and tested them to see which card had the highest overclock potential. The FTW3 absolutely destroyed the other two. You have MLCCs in the power delivery so you won’t have any crashing problems. And the power is three 8-pins enabling lofty power limits. Along with the ROG Strix, this is the best AIB model out there. You chose... wisely.

The ONLY reason I didn’t choose this card myself was that I think it’s ugly. Which of course is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Wow kool thanks for the info!
I am really excited now lol

I was going to order the STRIX OC but it was like $300AU more than the FT3 Ultra so that's why I went for this EVGA. Can't wait now! :)

Here’s Steve overclocking the FTW3 using only its own boost and its own fans. He got a Port Royal score of around 14,400. For context, the average Port Royal score for overclocked 3080s is currently 11,351.

https://youtu.be/k8Q5di0YzLc

That’s 27% better performance than the average overclocked 3080, and it’s only being air-cooled. It’s as I was saying earlier in the thread, the AIB models with three power rails are going to offer far larger gains over the 3080s when properly tweaked than the 10% figure currently being bandied about in relation to the FE model suggests.

Try telling that to anyone who wants to knock the 3090, though. ‘But only 10%’ is all you will ever hear. Which for some of these AIBs is simply not true.

Even happier ive gone with the Asus Strix oc after all these issues have been popping up and also it seems to have a 480w power mode which should help on the oc:D

Another one for the list:

H8REDFLIP - Gigabyte - 3090 Aorus Xtreme - 24/09/2020 14:15:17 - OC4045499 - Not Shipped

Anyone know the cap configuration of the Aorus Xtreme? :/

My order for what it's worth. Only ordered the 3090 out of 'want' rather than need and with the 3080 been so close I'll cancel this if the opportunity to get a 3080 comes up quicker.

Looks like Gigabyte might have gone will all-POSCAPs on its models, but the Xtreme is not yet listed, so hold tight. All-POSCAPs will be a problem if they are indeed the source of the issue (yet to be fully proven, incidentally).

Any model showing as ‘mixed’ will be fine. Meanwhile the ASUS TUF and Strix are the only cards with 100% MLCCs. Credit to ASUS here for its complete disregard for cost-cutting.

Good choice! Have the same card on order. The way I see it, 4k on my CX and VR on my index needs all the frames it can get, so 10-20% (depending on the game) will be most welcome. Plus, I really don't like the idea of only 10GB. It's obvious it's inadequate as Nvidia have plans for a 20GB 3080. That will indeed be the sweet spot, but could be many months down the line.

Seems there are many, many Asus orders for the 3090 Strix OC, and probably about to be significantly more, since the whole capacitator issue has come to light (the asus card having the most expensive and best filtering available).

I was tempted to get one of these but I didn't see any reviews of the 3080 version so took a guess that these would be one of the versions that will be shipped later on.

I based my decision on previous experience with Gigabyte Aorus products. My current system board is an Aorus X470 and I’ve got an Aorus GTX1080TI at the moment and never had a single problem with either.

Add to that the fact that IMO it’s one of the better quality, better looking and now according to the website better specced cards, I’m hoping it will be a solid decision.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated, *Fingers crossed

Gigabyte have gone with POSCAPS on the Eagle and Gaming OC cards which are the lower spec/lower end of the market 3090 cards. That doesn’t necessarily mean they have done the same with their premium spec model which is the Aorus Master/Xtreme. I can’t find any info on what’s on the Aorus cards at the moment, so as it stands I would just hold fire and see what’s fed back In the coming days.
