Binning process for Evga rtx 3080

This post at EVGA's Forums says that none of the cards they are currently producing are being binned, so it is purely luck of the draw. They are howere apparently testing the overclock is reachable for the OC versions, so I guess there is slightly less chance of getting a bottom tier chip with them.

Well, if none of the cards are binned, doesn't that mean the EVGA 3080 FTW3 ULTRA could have a bad chip?

It means that it is definitely good enough to meet the advertised specifications and has a bigger and better cooler.

The XC3 Black is the basic smaller cooler without backplate, the XC3 is the same clock speeds and cooler with a backplate, the FTW is the bigger and better cooler and the FTW Ultra is a guaranteed overclock with the same composition as the FTW.

The current crashes and instability everyone is talking about only seems to happen over 2000Mhz core clock which none of the cards are advertised to do hence talk of needing a BIOS or driver update to stop them going so high. Different combinations of capacitors may help reduce instability at these speeds and EVGA have said that their higher rated cards with have the better 2:4 ratio whilst the basic cards will have 5:1 of the basic to high frequency capacitors

Why cant they just use 470 rated SP caps like the gigabyte 3080 eagle OC as this card has no problems with hitting over 2ghz. Tbh manufacturers are just cutting corners.

just because 470 rated sp has a higher number doesn’t mean a lower one is worse. You have to take the whole power delivery system into account when choosing which capacitor and resistor to use at any given time. No one has acctully done any real test8ng on this issue it’s all based on visually inspecting the cards and best guess work from people (some very knowledgeable people) .

debaur will be doing some real world testing buy using differn sp-caps and Mlcc on his card this will give a lot clearer picture then what we have atm
