I can already feel the "hmm, I should probably upgrade my CPU as well" setting in

I was thinking to go for 10900k but Rocket Lake S is close, I would rather wait a couple of months for PCI-4.0 and intel 11th Gen i9. Also, I cant really afford a new Asus Maximus hero MB, Kraken cooler and i9 right now after purchasing the Rtx 3090 strix which cost £1710.00.

Ryzen 4XXX has been coming SOON™ for a while now and that's what I'm waiting on, assuming they maintain the AM4 socket and don't pull a fast one on us

Personally I looked on a website that happens to list how many people are watching/looking at an item and noticed that there was twice as many looking at the OC version..so I chose the non OC version hoping that it would give me a better chance. They are not binned any differently - and I think most would be very disappointed with having the OC version as the only clock they can achieve as it is so conservative.

That is exactly why I made the choice with the Non-OC Ver :p

Depends what else you are running. My cpu draws and extra 557W on its own when at 100% use. System is 101W at idle. Add in a tasty overclock on water on the strix 3090 and I am at 1148W. .
Fair enough, but most folk are not running 36-thread CPUs that can draw more power than most entire systems. Most of us are running desktop-class CPUs of various types and capabilities. My 10900K can hit about 300w overclocked to 5.2Ghz when burn/stress testing but I’ve yet to see it pass 120w in any gaming scenario because pretty much no games exist that properly stress more than four cores or threads.

Look around, on GamersNexus, Hardware Unboxed and more: No one is drawing much more than 600w total system power with the 3090. 750w will do it IMO, provided you leave the power setting as it is in the BIOS. Maxing it out, plus an OC, then yeah, you’re gonna need more power, but anything more than 850w — provided you have a desktop-class CPU — is unnecessary IMO.

And there is no 'danger' in running your PSU higher than 75% capacity. Top brands such as ASUS, SeaSonic and Corsair run just fine at 100% because they have headroom capacity built in. You might get some power fluctuations closer to 100% on lower-end PSUs, but again, this is not going to break anything. Your components are designed to allow for this.

Anyway. I guess we’ll find out. After all nothing is going to blow up if you don’t have enough power. It just won’t work. Lol.

Yeah my answer was tongue in cheek but you didnt know what else was in Deuse's system when you answered so hence I wanted to point out you should never assume. Plus people buying 3090 probably will have more towards the high end multi core cpus anyway really.

Might do another upgrade to pci5 and ryzen 4xxx when they are out later this year. Will substantially drop my power usage anyway lol

These were all the cards they had today.

We have a small amount on Zotac and Palit.
We have a very small amount on Asus TUF, Gigabyte Eagle & Gaming, MSI Ventus and PNY.

I feel very lucky to have got one now as Gibo has just said they only had 14 Zotacs, so for me to get a TUF must have meant very low numbers indeed if he classed small as 14 for the Zotac cards.

Gibbo has defined "small" as between 10 and 50 and "very small" as less than 10 for future reference.

Yeah, I just assumed that if he had something like a 9980XE he would never have a 750w PSU in the first place. Lol.

And yeah, I did wonder what benefit you're getting from the 9980XE over something more conservative. Probably for another thread, though. :D

Purely cause it was cheap. System builder on here was selling the system as per my sig which was only 2 months old as he wanted to fund a new ryzen build. Basically he was selling a £7k new cost pc for half price and I was due an upgrade. No sane person should have bought the 9980XE unless they really needed to make use of all those cores.

I have enjoyed the gaming and photo/video editing on it for the last 18 months though. Nothing really phases it :)

Add me another one :)

I built a system from the ground up for the 3090, selling my old system as a complete unit. I got £1500 for my old 2080ti/i7700K combo, which went a long way towards building the new one. Here's me booting it up for the first time – there's a 2060 Super in there RN.

And in-situ, with even more RGB cabling. Even the cables from the PSU and to the CPU power are RGB Lol.

Very nice, I like it. this was the rainbow monstrosity I bought lol
