Hey, hoping someone can give me a hand on this. Yesterday I bought the i9 10900k, It is arriving today in the post, however, I am seeing a lot of you saying to wait for ryzen... Whatever they are coming out with, will it be better than intel's one?

Bare in mind that I am patiently waiting to get my hands on the 3080.

Should I return my cpu and wait for ryzen? or simply not worth it?

Can't really answer your question but the 10900k is a great CPU. IF AMD even do manage to top it, I can't see it being by much

Intel 10th Gen doesn't support PCI-E 4.0 either... Personally would return, wait for Ryzen Zen 3 to be announced 8th October... And go for 5800X/5900X or whichever is best bang for buck.

Leaks already show some good % gains if true. Zen 3 actual release for sale is expected to be 20th October supposedly.

Unless new games etc come out that take advantage of PCI-E 4, it makes very little difference, 2-3fps max between PCI-E 3 and 4 with same hardware.

So you may as well stick with what you got.

Gamers Nexus has done the testing.

may sound like a really silly question, but will intel 10th gen ever be able to support pci-e 4.0 eventually? or is that like impossible?

One deciding factor for AMD vs INTEL, in my case at least is Spectre and Meldown and all the other security vulnerabilities that seems to be plaguing INTEL, so I will sacrifice 10 FPS for a more secure platform. Even If I only do gaming.

That re-re-re-rebrand of 6th gen Skylake won't ever support it.
Intel was simply unable to get PCIe v4 to work with it.
Or more likely just didn't give a damn, because actually updating architecture that much would have incurred redesign costs.

While there won't be any dramatic changes in single core, in multicore performance situation is different.

It’s a dead socket with Intel. And PCI-E 4.0 even if not used in GPUs all that much right now, it’s the beginning of it with 30 series being 4.0 compatible so why not future proof and get it on AM4?

Also have NVME Gen4 drives should you want one.

Lastly doesn’t negate the fact Zen 3 is round the corner with good IPC improvements, and if leaked benchies are true it’ll beat the 10900k by a decent margin.

All the above, makes AM4 a no brainer. Let alone the better value for money aspect and performance.

I'm holding out for the Ryzen 5000 series.
Waiting on the RTX3080 pre-order as well, which could be some time, so I'm in no rush to buy just yet.
I'm just hoping the launch of the Ryzen goes a little smoother than the 3080!
Sometimes you just have to buy and stop questioning your decisions and forget about it, or you will be waiting for the next release without ever completing your build.

Vey true, but with Zen 3, hopefully, physically released near end of October you shouldn't have to wait too long (although, your 3080 pre-order will probably negate that). And @Sparx and @EsaT make very valid points re: Zen 3 - even if with the socket coming to an end the motherboard tech is still superior to that of any INTEL incarnation (i.e. B550/x570 boards - and future x670.)

Should be fun build with a 5xxx and 3080 combo.

Definitely, but which comes first...The chicken or the egg! Got a new P600s case and PSU looking very lonely at the moment, just waiting to be filled with goodies. I could start drip feeding supplies like mobo, ram and ssd.
At least something would turn up each week :D
