Sorting a new build, which will be for general use but also Premiere Pro, Photoshop and some gaming.

Ideally don't want to spend a fortune on a card and happy to go second hand.

Was thinking something like 5600 xt , 5700 xt, rtx 1660 super, rtx 2060. Any pointers?

Wanted to send maybe £200 to £250. I have been offered a nearly new boxed sapphire pulse 5600 xt for £200.

2nd hand market is a bit ludicrous at the moment ie RTX 2060's going for well over £200. Cards are still holding their value quite well as disappointed potential 3080's owners fall back on buying lesser cards as a stop gap.

5600 XT for £200 is a good price.

As you've identified the launch of cards like the 3070 will do next to nothing here.

I thought it was a good price, but is it a good card for what I need

it depends on what amd released and at what price. nvidia have only released the 3080 which affects the high end not the mid. If AMD release a card around the 350-400 mark then you should see the cost of 5700 XT's come down. AMD prices are goign to be hit harder than nvidia

I have a Ryzen 3800x and GTX 1660 Super. It seems to work very well for 1080p games. I haven't tried 1440p, as my monitors are all 1080p. You can easily find the performance at that resolution with various games by looking for reviews.

Having said that I shall be upgrading the GPU soon to a 3080 so I can use all three screens with Flight Sim. My 1660 Super will then be heading to ebay (As well as a load of other stuff to pay for the 3080!). Lol.

Not sure you read the thread?

sure i did. buying a 2nd hand card in ur price range right now is a bad idea until 3070/3060 get released as when they are released prices of 2nd hand market will go down significantly. so if u buy now ur burning cash.
but if u need it urgently, then go for it. if u don't, wait til at least the end of Oct.

It's a bad time to buy right now. As the 30 series cards filter out into the public and RDNA2 releases prices will fall soon. No one's going to be paying the sorts of prices 2060s and the likes are going for now when there's new cards that will either do the same for less or more for the same money. Plus I think there could be a fair amount of people who have mid range cards choosing to get a console instead soon who may sell a card to pay for it.
