So I got a evga 2080 super about 3 months ago, tested it on air could not hear any whine at all.
Went ahead put a block on it, could only hear a small amount but had v/sync on.
As of late been trying it without v/sync and it’s unbearable.
I built the whole wc system with as close to silence in mind.
Would I be within my rights to ask for a refund? As if they replaced with another it could be the same or worse.

Really? Three months later, after you’ve pulled the card to bits and the 3000 series are now released ?
Best of luck trying with that refund lmao :D

Manufacturers make a lot of effort on stock coolers to block coil whine. Once you remove that, all bets are off. Coil whine is very common when you turn vsync off and go on super high frame frames, even more so with watercooling.

You’re not due for a refund, they sold you a card with a suitable air cooler and it performs on said cooler as advertised.

Evga are Ok with removal of the cooler to water cool :p
My hearing must be sensitive to the whine as I can hear it from across the room.
Evga also allow rma for coil whine, bought on credit card so might take up the issue with them.

I put the air cooler back on yesterday and with v/sync off I could not hear it whine as the xc cooler is that noisy :D

I would be happy to get another 2080s replacement if the whine was less, but it could be worse :D

My evga 2080s would only whine when folding never in gaming.

This is, at 100fps and the rest of the pc is nearly silent so the whine stands out a country mile.
Now with the air cooler back on sounds like 747 :D the whole reason i started liquid cooling my pc in the first place.
Psu is a 7 year old superflower 1000w plat, but also have a new corsair ax750 might try and swap to see it improves it.
