Hi all,

Just dropped my car off at a garage (08 punto) and really don’t want to get ripped off. Believe there’s a hole in the exhaust somewhere, when I bought it the guy told me rear silencer, just wondering what I can expect to pay to replace that?

Also, when driving my car today, undone the window and it won’t go back up and it makes a horrible grinding and crunching noise when I press the button on the drivers side. Any ideas on what this would be? I asked them to have a look at it just not sure how much I would expect to pay for this?

So they’ve just called me and said the whole exhaust needs replacing (Not sure why) all in all it would come close to £600. Not sure if that’s excessive but it seems very excessive to me.

parts they said are £220 worth. Not inc cat converter

£400 quid labour

FOR AN EXHAUST SWAP

I'm in the wrong game

Total rip mate. Eurocarparts full centre section with box and rear backbox is 57quid with discount code. You shouldn't be paying more than an hour TOPS getting that fitted, it should be a 50quid fitting!

What else needed doing??

Id suggest 1 hour labour to replace a complete exhaust, which is what £50 - £100 depending on where you go?

£380 labour is £LOL they are trying to rip you off... And an exhaust for a Punto is probably <£100 for the whole thing.

Rough guide £100 to £200 in total. Not £600!

You could buy another 1.2 Punto for that. :p

Sounds like the guy is playing the fool, have a look on eurocarparts and go back to him with the cost and ask where the additional money is going, might suddenly drop to £150 at that point.
Unless he's replacing the cat as well, then it could be getting towards that cost, but probably isn't really necessary.

Yeah, just went and got the car and he said the pipe which connects to the engine is loose, aswell as the part which connects to the center pipe and back box is rusted. Not sure the official terms of these items but yeah i realise I’m being mugged off completely.

the cars worth about £600 tops !!

Nothing.. I said about the window regulator but I decided I should be able to do that myself

He was probably factoring in the cost of the window regulator which is about £100 too but even that is not a big job I dont think to fit, should be able to pick one up for about £30-40 from a breakers yard.

Did you not get a breakdown in costs?

If so, they should detail how much they're charging you for parts, VAT, any consumables, and labour - including the number of hours quoted.

That'll at least give you a better idea of whether you're getting ripped off.

Just an update really...

took it to a garage today and they said £170 for parts and labour which isn’t too bad I think so gonna get it fixed there.

Much better than the £580 I was quoted or whatever it was....
