rtx 3080 20gb coming Dec

I wont be gaming at 4k for the next 4 years so this will be perfect for me. Then in about 4 years I'll look at a nice 4k monitor and card to compliment each other!

Good, because I was thinking of 1440p performance when I said RT performance is only just acceptable today. In a couple of years and you will be turning down the RT to the lower settings.

tbh Ngreedia always do this, release a card and then punish all the early adopters by releaseing better shortly after - i totally fail to understand why they do this to their most loyal customers tbh
There is also no way on earth id buy an 8 or 10 GB card ever now
All depends on the resolution you're gaming at. 10GB is definitely fine for 1440P or lower and for next 2 years. Last gen the memory was used better too for some reason, than the generation before it, better compression or something. I remember doing a comparisons in a few games & benchmarks.

10GB = $700+
20GB = $1000+

I have a 10GB on order but I'd rather put the $300 towards Ryzen 5000 + mobo than an extra 10GB I probably won't need since my monitor is 1440p.

Yep also faster 6x memory and also will see how much direct storage comes into play as well?

You guys wanting a 20GB 3080 better watchout! @TNA and the other "10gb is more than enough" fanatics will be this thread with pitchforks soon, as they claim 10GB is fine for 4k for the 3080's 2 year + lifespan!!!

This is despite evidence that Doom Eternal already NEEDS 9GB to run 4k max, and Flightsim 2020 which also needs more than 10GB for smooth operation.

Defend yourselves!

That's my thinking. At least £150 more for the 20GB. Though I keep looking at these 3090s, while I wait for my 3080. I just don't think the RT perf is there for 3+ years of use, hence common sense telling me to stick with the 3080.

Will be a nice upgrade from the 1080Ti and then later from a 3770k(4c8t) to 5900X(12c24t).

Lol. 10gb is enough for me. Can’t speak for others. It plays every game out now fine ;)

How many games that I will want to play will come out between now and the release of hopper (which I will upgrade to) that won’t run at 10gb? Not many, so yeah 10gb is fine for me :D

Doom Eternal, mega textures, uses just a smidge over 8GB for 4k - https://www.techpowerup.com/review/doom-eternal-benchmark-test-performance-analysis/4.html

FS 2020 is still a bit of a beta product so a poor title to judge ATM. We should see better optimisation and perhaps DirectIO come in to play once it hits the next gen Xbox (what's it called?). May even be smart to wait on AMD's cards due to this.

Just cancelled my 3080 order, if im gunna have to wait probably another month for a 10GB in my eyes I may as well wait another month or so to see what happens with the 20GB, worst case ill just purchase a 10GB in a few months.

If they go ahead and launch a superior version before some people even get the 3080 they already paid for...There should be rioting in the streets. I wont be happy with that so soon. If so why bother launching the 10gb version at all

Yes agree not good. I presume it's because they are afraid of what AMD have and want to get in first.

A paper launch in effect and then also then more VRM because AMD will have more VRM.

Anything below 4k will be dead soon with things getting pushed up to 8k so on. So that makes gpu's use more memory.

Full RT in AAA games at 60FPS+ (1080p) is still 1-2 generations away.

Also I recommend waiting for benchmark gaming comparisons as you may well find a 5900X doesn't gain much over the others in many games as they don't utilize all cores, generally for gaming you want best single-core performance, it's why I went with the 3600xt instead of the 3800xt/3900xt.

Viewing large areas will consume more VRAM, so AMD may do well here for 4K FS2020/DCS gaming.

Also unless you have inside access judging actual VRAM usage is difficult as games can simply dump everything into the VRAM that they think they may need, even if the textures aren't needed for the current level so load times beyond the initial game start are reduced and do the opposite if the GPU has limited VRAM.

For those expecting the 3080 20gb to be £1000 I think you may be surprised.
If big Navi is as good as the rumours are saying (3080 performance, 16gb, would have to be cheaper than the 3080) the 3080 10gb may get a small price cut with the 20gb coming in at $800 or even replacing the $700 price point :D

Would be nice, but can't see it to be honest.
