rtx 3080 20gb coming Dec

Just seems logical to me if a 6900xt is roughly on par with a 3080 with 16gb vram and comes in at say £600. Don't think even the most die hard Nvidia fanboy would pay £400 more over that for 4gb more vram.

you are under estimating the Nvidia fanboys. They will still pay it!

I’m so tempted to get an AMD card purely just to say **** you to Nvidia for the massive mess of this launch, which from what im reading and especially if the 20GB rumour is true for Dec was probably all pre-planned. I do however still have bad dreams about previous experience with then ATI drivers and saying to myself to never purchase one again.

There has been the odd issue with a driver here and there over the last couple of years, but honestly dont let it put you off. just wait a couple of months for them to mature and make the jump.

Nvidea aren't stupid, this is all calculated im sure. Release the 3080 with limited stock for customers but manage to get the stock out to all reviewers and get everyone very excited, AMD drop new cards with 14/16GB of VRAM, Nvidia reply with a 3080 with 20GB of VRAM with a higher price tag and availability whilst slowly phasing out the 10GB edition?

They won't, that helps them hit a lower price point and will be popular among many. Helps keep them competitive.

Thats true. Well im just hoping that the 20GB is around £100 more to justify my cancellation :)

£100 more would be tempting, though I can't see it. Should have kept your 10GB order as it probably won't be deilivered before we find out. And OCUK were just recently swapping a card (MSI to ASUS) for someone while keeping order position.

If they go ahead and launch a superior version before some people even get the 3080 they already paid for...There should be rioting in the streets. I wont be happy with that so soon. If so why bother launching the 10gb version at all

Like I said earlier this is complete nonsense the industry needs regulating. Launching a new product before they even shipped the previous one.

Why is nvidia so desperate to rush all these SKU's out?

All depends on the resolution you're gaming at. 10GB is definitely fine for 1440P or lower and for next 2 years. Last gen the memory was used better too for some reason, than the generation before it, better compression or something. I remember doing a comparisons in a few games & benchmarks.
In honesty this generation of 3000 gpu’s is specifically optimised for 4K - that’s the standard people want and that is the standard that will unfold in the next two years
As a 3090 preorder Customer I simply would not spend that kind of money to play in 1080 or 1440 and I suspect as screen prices drop and higher resolutions become the norm I’d want a card that capable of 4K - I genuinely think the 3080 20gb card will be the card of choice and that the delay in ngreedia 10gb card stock will be a blessing for gamers long term
Just look how displays have evolved in the last two or three years and I think the next two or three years is very exciting indeed for affordable 4K plus gaming

For those expecting the 3080 20gb to be £1000 I think you may be surprised.
If big Navi is as good as the rumours are saying (3080 performance, 16gb, would have to be cheaper than the 3080) the 3080 10gb may get a small price cut with the 20gb coming in at $800 or even replacing the $700 price point :D

When has an AMD GPU not been overhyped? it wont be near rumour performance.

The writing is on the wall with the leaks of the 20GB cards from AIBs. Why should people be riotting? When will consumers use their own brains and make sensible decisons rather than throwing their toys out of the pram because they want to impulse buy and not make sensible, educated purchase decisions?

This is the high-end PC gaming equivalent of the toilet roll buyers people laugh about on the news.

I’m not mad personally and im not sure how anyone can be without knowing how much the 20GB is going to be.

It was with another site and I was 370 in the queue so very very roughly based on what other sites have been receiving maybe another months wait? End of the day I can just order a 10GB card again if needed. Sold my 1080 ti for a good price and I’m just looking forward to getting off this borrowed 980 ti at some point :)

I just don't get how people can be mad at all. They've pre-ordered and bought a GPU which was paper launched, leakers of high VRAM cards coming out, limited stock, issues OOTB with AIB cards causing crashes, a lower VRAM than we expected considering next gen consoles and there is a competitor launch in 4 weeks time. They've made an impulsive uneducated decision, without knowing what the competition are packing or even waiting for plentiful stock supplies and fixes of what the reported hardware-related crashes.

No one to blame but yourself there. Not even NVIDIA.

This release and the very tiny number of 3090s makes sense with the online statements saying nvidia couldn't get enough decent gddr6x from samsung and only later had good enough yield.

Gddr6x wasn’t that micron not Samsung though

And a free chicken dinner with it :D

I think the 20GB model will add another £150 plus require another ~20W of power if using 2GB chips. Cost will rise more though if they have to put another set of 1GB chips on the back of the board.
this is what I was thinking around that price point for the 20gb +£150 I reckon
