Hey,

I've been holding off upgrading my PC until the announcement - not going to lie - I'm still more confused then ever after watching it so hoping for a bit of advice

I currently have:

i7 6700k
B150M-K Motherboard
16GB of Kingston DDR4 RAM
RTX 2080 FE
Coolmaster Heatsink for CPU

I'm mainly interested in gaming at 1440p - been looking at buying a new motherboard , a NVME SSD for operating system (currently SSD) a new CPU and possibly a water cooler (kraken looks good as I have a NZXT H500i case)

What would your suggestions be? Better waiting to try get a new Ryzen or look at getting a deal on an i9 or zen 2 chip - I'm completely lost with this ha.

I have that itch and I've been holding off scratching it for a while :D is there anything you would consider upgrading now?
It would (Nov 5th):
  • 5800X ~£350 upwards (5700X will be far better value)
  • Gigabyte B550 Elite or MSI B550 Tomahawk ~£160
  • Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz 32 GB (Micron E die) - £140 (or £70 for 16GB)
Offset the cost by selling your MB, CPU and memory.

Just to confirm mate are you saying it may be better going for the 3700x instead of the 5800x ?

Thanks for your suggestions

No, that was autopilot (sorry - i'm still reading data on paper launch) - i meant you could wait for 5700X.

I'll edit original post otherwise they'll be an influx of posts.

Whats your thoughts on a i5-10600k? they seem like really good price at the minute

My thoughts are they run very hot and deficient in cores/threads - but there's no denying they have their place and decent price with their 'present' performance (But, factor in motherboard and decent cooler)

Personally, in your position, and if i was looking at performance to money ratio (guessing from your suggestion) - i would wait the additional 6 months (if present gaming performance isn't an issue) and buy the 5700X with the additional cores/threads (parity with consoles ports) plus cooler and know that you have really made a significant update and for best bang for buck/longevity.
