I've been in MM for decades, i've been on here nearly 20 years, just a slow poster

I’ll be sitting on my 3900X for a while yet I think.
These are fantastic clearly, but my money is much better put towards getting the best GPU upgrade I can afford this winter.
Will however be very tempted to pop in a cheeky little 5950X later next year after hopefully there have been some price drops... max out the platform and then sit tight for a couple of years while DDR5/PCie5.0 matures.
I was looking at buying a new PC so was holding out to see this event. CPU's look good but fairly pricey.
Is the entry level $299 worth waiting for? I'll be looking to spend 1k on my new rig but i'm bang-per-buck builder or should i just carry on and see what i can get now?
It's 6+6.Do we know the layout of the 5900X? Is it 8+4 or 6+6?
I must be honest, AMD held back today. It's clear that Zen 3 was designed to be just fast enough to claim the fastest gaming crown but held back everything else for Zen 4
Bang for buck a good deal on the old 3000 series will surely be the way to go, I assume you are talking gaming rig?
These new CPUs are looking fantastic but to be frank unless you are playing 1080p or below you are going to be GPU limited in the majority of games so would see very little difference in splashing the cash on the new 5000 series... that saved money would be much more effective out towards GPU budget.
For a budget build like that, assuming gaming is the goal, I’d say pick up a 3600 over the next few weeks when you see some blinding deals in it and put the majority of your budget into getting the most GPU you can. It’s a great time to be building over the next month or two!

Yep black Friday could see some cracking deals on the 3000 series!!
The 3600 is probably still the best bang for your buck option paired with a cheap B450 or B550 motherboard, though its pricing has crept up obnoxiously over the past few months. It was hitting £150 a while back and is now up around £190. Worth waiting to see if it comes back down during the upcoming holiday sales period.Should point out i'm neither AMD or Intel fanboy. What are the best bang for buck CPUS available now from either?
Hold the **** up. Am I reading this right? From the validation:

They artifically limited the 3800XT to 4Ghz and let the 5800x run at whatever boost it wanted. Doesn't this mean then the 19% IPC increase is actually much lower? wtf?

Well if you are doing nothing but gaming then I don't imagine that going from 3600x to 5600x is going to give you THAT many frames. If price is a big factor in making a new rig then I would say, if you already have a 3000 ryzen chip, keep that until zen 4 comes out, or until you feel more comfortable spending the money on zen 3. For people considering the 5600x, definitively wait for the reviews and DO NOT pre purchase or panic buy first minute of the launch. Demand for these CPUs will not be comparable to the 3080 launch. There are A LOT of intel users that are not going to hop over to AMD, and also a lot of people that simply cant afford to buy GPU+CPU in the same few months.I'll be honest, £450 is more than I wanted to spend. Between that and possibly a RTX 3070 that's over £1000 and I still need every other part for a fresh PC build. So my question is: How big of a an upgrade is the Ryzen 5 5600X (6 core) going to be over the 3600/3600x?
