5900x has higher stock boost clocks, bigger cache. current games will play fine with 6c which is the single CCX on 5900x so the latency effect is negated.

Extra cache and higher sustained boost due to the spread of cores would probably overcome the performance loss from cross CCD latency.

On a 4690k which is struggling so much now, 90%-100% usage in most games. 5.5 years since last upgrade.
May go for a 5600x + B550 Tomahawk/Gaming Plus/Gaming Edge (no idea which)

Those are placeholders and may well change before launch. OCUK do that on all pre release stock. That's why people have been whining about the 3080 so much, because OCUK gave out those prices and then changed them before launch.

Cheers for the link. At first £290 sounded like a lot for 6 cores but at the end of the day the real world performance is what matters I guess. If the 5600x is 13% faster on average than the 10600k and also faster than the 3700x at the same price point then it would be a no brainer to get the 5600x over those two CPU's. Unless of course you really need the 2 extra cores.
For my situation it's purely gaming. I usually upgrade every 5-6 years so it may be worth just going for the 5600x! Just have to decide what motherboard and memory to get as there is just so much choice!
Side question regarding memory. 3200mhz + CL16 or 3600mhz + CL18 for a 5600x?
3600-3800MHz is still the sweet spot (IO die didn't change), although benefit could be less pronounced now with unified cache.

I'm just thinking what I can get away with to be honest, while retaining most of gaming performance benefit of the Zen 3 architecture.
The 5800X is expensive for what it is, but it is cheaper than going the 5900X and 5950X route.
And it does have a fully kitted out single chiplet with a higher base clock than the rest of the line up.
We will have to see how it benches when directly compared, but I'm thinking it will be right up there trading blows.
So it could be the way to go you know.

You're one of the only people I know that got a 3300x cpu. They were like hens teeth when you tried to buy one, I ended up getting a stop gap 3600 instead.I bought a 3300x to tide me over for the last few months so I feel justified.
Where I live the PC enthusiast population is smaller and retailers only sell within the country, so generally you can get stock of almost anything if you get there within a reasonable time.
I don't think it was very mass-produced or intended to have a particularly long lifespan. Great budget CPU though!
It's a weird feeling knowing that, if I ever wanted to, I could just swap my 3900X for a 5900X and not have to change out my X570 motherboard. It certainly feels like I'm getting my money's worth out of the motherboard instead of just ditching it for the next highend one.
