AMD Zen 3 (5000 Series), rumored 17% IPC gain.

Yea the new AMD stuff is end of the line for AM4, but the top 16 core will handle anything you need for 3-5 years and the 8 core will still be very good as well. All zen 3 chips contain a lot of power for single thread stuff, lightly threaded games and heavy multithread workloads. its a medium term investment not an every year upgrade imo. I'm coming from 5 year old 6700k so the jump to 8 core and IPC will be a nice jump as and when I decide. Waiting it out for a Nvidia 3080 and will see how it does with current setup first.

Also on i7 6700k for past 5 years, I was planning to go with zen 3 8 core but with the pricing could just put little more and go with 12 core 5900x will see the proper benchmarks and decide also with the zen 3 being the last chip for AM3 its not got future path , then again I dont tend to upgrade cpu/board for good few years

4k should mostly be fine, but i think Zen 2 will bottleneck a 3080 at 1440p and 1080p if wanting high fps. So i look forward to upgrading my 3700x, want to see reviews and other comparisons first though of the 5800x and 5900x. Hopefully the reviews are coming before we can actually order.
Yeah for 3080 owners it's a valid point. I'm aiming for 200-240 FPS in 1440p myself and already looking forward to some benchmarks of 5800/5900 on 3080.
Think it might give some decent boost

I think you'll find it's the other way around. :)

The money you pay (£529) for a 10900K (10 cores/20 threads) gets you a 5900X (12 cores/24 threads).

The 5800X is around £100 cheaper.
The 10850k is a thing and can be had for cheaper than a 5800X.

If they had only slightly increased prices or kept the same, intel would be sweating more. Instead they have a good CPU but costly. It won't attract over intel fan boys or people sitting on the fence. AMD has to keep the price below intel.

I think we will see price cuts in 2021 where these CPU's will really shine.
Yeah Intel will be sweating less for sure than they could have been.

AMD could have gone for the kill and left people unable to buy any Intel product or even think about it. Now will this pricing they've introduced doubt and a grey area. Is it better to buy Intel for gaming because Intel are now cheaper? Should we wait a bit for Rocket Lake so Intel can regain their lead in gaming?

It should have been a complete "no-brainer" to buy AMD. Instead they've screwed the pooch and put prices up so much that people are once again questioning whether AMD is the right choice.

AMD have officially said "No" (to GN) but GN don't believe them. Officially these are the only SKUs AMD intend to release.

And in some ways it makes sense. Given that this is the last AM4 processor, AMD might have decided to keep making the 3000 series with just the 4 5000 series SKUs to sit above them.

Then EOL both series with AM5 comes out.

This could be their plan. 3000 and 5000 series EOL at the same time, 5000 series only being 4 SKUs.

(Sorry meant to hit the "edit" button and not reply to myself!!! (like an idiot))

But for those that just want the absolute best they just buy the 5900x or 5950x and be done with it.

Only the noobs with no money...If you are the fastest premium product your prices reflect that. I have no issue paying a £50 uplift over what I paid for a 3900x on release for a 5900x

AMD are back with a superb line up of chips at astonishing performance per watt....

Intel have been fleecing their customers for years and stagnant in their development....I’ll support AMD as they have shown innovation and AMD get my extra £50 with no complaints...

Think ill just give my x99 5820k to my missus for wfh and build a new rig for myself.

Can anyone recommend some ram for 5800x?

Any ram 3200Mhz or higher will do, look for the tightest timing you can find for your budget.

Zen 2 and Zen 3 a like is not particular about RAM as long as it 3200Mhz or higher, beyond that the tighter the timings the better it is in games.

Definitely get something capable of running 3600mhz. You want the infinity fabric to be running at 1800mhz with a 1:1 ratio.
