Only the noobs with no money...If you are the fastest premium product your prices reflect that. I have no issue paying a £50 uplift over what I paid for a 3900x on release for a 5900x
I'm sure you understand that the 5900X is not the most price-sensitive SKU :p It does not surprise me in the slightest that people who paid £500 last time would not think twice about paying £550 this time.

The difference between £500 and £550, is not as much of a leap as say from £200 to £250. Or (thanks to currently missing SKUs) £200 - £300.

So I'm looking at getting a zen 2 CPU soon as all of the zen 3 ones are out of my range.

Was thinking about the 3600, but can't help but think I might get everything I need from a 3300X. I don't game heavily, just a bit here and there and even then not hugely fussed about frame rates on my 1080p. I have a rx590 gpu.

3300x has a cinebench score higher than the 3600 (probably because clock speeds are slightly higher), and with 4 cores and 8 threads should be ample for me on that front too. Is there some other downside I'm not seeing? They have the same max TDP so no tradeoff there even.

At 70 quid cheaper - that's 65% of the price! - with better single thread performance, it seems like the way to go?

Would be buying with a B550M motherboard so I could always beef up when future zen 3 SKUs appear if needed.

AMD are a business...they have priced the 5000 series in line with performance from the direct competitors....That’s it...AMD will not make a Chip SKU redundant in their line up...regardless of what you want...man up and get a 5800x :p
Are you not aware that not everyone can afford a 5900X like you? Surely you realise that people *want* a better value SKU like the 3600 and the 3700X were?

They *want* them. If AMD stick to their current strategy, people will consider spending their money elsewhere.

They won't all just pony up for a 5900X like you.

More fool you....:p

You buy the best performance for your money...that’s it...5900x or 5950x for me...:D
"Look at me I've got a lot of disposable." Stay classy, easy.

But you do know reality is a thing. Your dream of 12 cores for £200 is just that.

Lisa has got the taste for 60%+ margins like old boy Jensen. The days of AMD for peasants is over, they are now the premium brand and can charge for it.

Not you too.

This forums is really going to hell in handbasket, with it now being normal for people to say (smugly) "Oh stop being so poor," and not saying it as a joke either.

It's the rather ugly face of elitism and people are more ready that ever here to be condescending to anyone on a budget.

It's rather disappointing.

lol, It’s always been the way....when you the fastest the price increases...considering what Intel have been charging for their junk the 5600x is a cpu win imo...

No it hasn't "always been this way." You just have to look at the 3600 and the 3700X from last gen.

You say AMD don't want to make value SKUs this gen because they want more profit - clearly you have already seen the difference between this gen and last gen, hence saying, "It's always been this way" is a bit daft.

Yet you didn’t buy them.

No you wanted a 3900X for £200. Outside of your head that was never going to happen.
Nope. That's pure jigger bs again.

I said in a thread a while ago that I'd like 8c to be the new mainstream chip at £200-£250.

You've exaggerated that for effect.

Instead AMD are giving us core count regression, and the £200 price point will probably be a quad now, like the £300 is now a 6c rather than an 8c.

Lol when did he ever say that?

Nobody is asking for that. A lot are asking for the 5700x for $329-379 and a 5600 for $250 I dont see that as a big ask really.

Perfectly reasonable and probably will come to fruition.

It's jigger, he prides himself in being a troll.

I did say (some time ago) that it would be nice to see 8c become the new mainstream (x600) offering.

Fat chance of that with AMD in gouge mode from now on.

9900k cost me £499

5800x cost £429

AMD are still cheaper than Intel and performance per watt.
Again you only care about the top-end SKUs. Frankly you don't live on the same planet as those buying the mainstream offerings.

And AMD have made the 5900 better value this time round than the lower end offerings. The $/core of the 5900 is actually the best vfm this time!

The one thing that does irk..... is when people expect AMD to practically give away their products, even if they are better.

We need AMD to be competitive, competitive does not mean free for all. AMD like everyone else need to make money so they can spend on R&D to keep being competitive.

Intel's CPU's are now in every measurable way worse than AMD's, and yet still more expensive, how is it still AMD's responsibility to to reduce margins on their products? Why do Intel still get a free pass?

Would a £349 5700x 8/16 suit? Are people really scrimping over 50 quid when building a pc? The cpu being the most important part but yet they’ll spaff this £50 on led lights and fans....:p
