On 5th November, or as near as I can make it, I am planning to build the following and if any of the experts on here could offer any advice where I may be making crazy mistakes then I'd much appreciate it:

My build will be for mixed gaming/productivity and so will be running a 38GL950G monitor.

  • 32gb(4 x 8GB sticks) of TEAM GROUP RIPPED EDITION 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C14 3600MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT - BLACK
  • AMD 5900X
  • MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 ATX MOTHERBOARD
  • Corsair FORCE MP600 SERIES 2TB NVME PCIE GEN4 M.2 SOLID STATE DRIVE (CSSD-F2000GBMP600)
  • NH-D15 DUAL RADIATOR QUIET CPU COOLER WITH TWO NH-A15 FANS
  • Zotac 3080 - only one I could get on pre-order. (I know it's the worst one, also I won't get it for a couple of weeks so will be able to keep it sealed until Big Navi is revealed and reviewed)
  • RM SERIES RM850 850W '80 PLUS GOLD' MODULAR POWER SUPPLY (CP-9020196-UK)

Case and fans are yet to be determined.

What do you think, is there anything I could do better for around the same price?
I had one bad experience with water cooling back in the early days and have always been afraid of it, do you think a AIO would much better than the air cooler I've selected.
I thought I read somewhere that on the mobo I have selected that 4 x 8gb is better than 2 x 16gb sticks, unless I dreamt it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

2x 16 GB is going to be better. You'll get greater speeds and a greater chance of motherboard compatibility.

Nope. You've chosen just about the very best air cooler and you'll find it quieter than an AIO.

Cooler wise look at the dark rock pro 4 or the noctua chromax better looking .

2 x 16gb would be better as it leaves you upgrade option And can be less problematic than all 4 slots filled.

Cheers folks, I must have dreamt it!

Ok, I'll go for the 2 x 16gb Modules. I just need to research cases and fans and I'm in business...getting exciting! :)

And I think I will go for the chromax cooler if I have it windowed with RGB etc

why not go with an AIO for the cpu?
It just seems that the cooler I've gone for performs as well as an AIO but with less to go catastrophically wrong and will likely last forever - fans may need replacing eventually but the heatsink won't degrade.

I'm not 100% yet as AIO give me more options with cases but I'm still researching argb fans and compatibility and static pressure vs airflow etc. I'm clueless!

noctua is a good cooler but its just to bulky IMHO...
Ryzen will definitely benefit from an AIO as they boost better with lower temp...

You'ver got me thinking...I might go for the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360. At least I can choose almost any case I want, I like the Li Lian
O11 DYNAMIC XL in white.

Good call!
OP could also have a look at i9 10850k, a lot of grunt and good OC'er, just a thought.

Good suggestions but I want the best CPU there is(within reason, I'm not mental). My last build, about 7 years ago, was full of compromises and I probably saved myself £1000...I wouldn't have missed the £1000 but I know I would have enjoyed my PC a lot more over the last half-decade so I'm going almost all-out. I've haven't played the Halo's, RDR2, Doom Eternal etc as I've saved them for my next PC so I can have it all on MAX :)

Cpu has less impact on performance the higher the resolution but if if you want to squeeze every frame then get the best you can afford.

I get that. Going all out is always a good move, you never really regret it. Quality does last, compromises never really pay off, although we do our best to rationalise our commercial 'going for 2nd best option'.
RTX 3090 owners might be excepted from this current hypothesis however.

both great choices..
I still have my Lian LI O11 dynamic but i moved to NZXT H1 and i am really surprized how good it is..
if you want to pack a lot of hardware and are going for RGB etc O11 is a great case to show it :)
now its collecting dust in the corner :)

Your NZXT looks really, really smart.

I've decided to for the regular for the Lian Li Ol-11 dynamic like yours. After looking at images around the net it looks classy but I now have to choose fans and stuff which I'm clueless about (something to research I suppose).

Decision made casewise - thanks :)
