rtx 3080 20gb coming Dec

I’m doing exactly the same, the 20 series was in essence a beta test, a very expensive one at that. Most 2080’s don’t score a lot higher than a decent 1080 ti in none rtx workloads (obviously) so it was a no brainier for me a wait.

mad it turns out the 10gb rtx3080 is a beta test too chuchuchu

The 10gb is fine for me at 1440p. I’m pretty much stuck on what I can do anyway. Gave my 1080 to my nephew as his 1070 was on its way out. Didn’t get a 3080 at launch like I planned, the whole stock issue left me either getting a temp card or getting a evga card to enter the step up program which is what I ended up doing.

I can’t even wait for amd to release Navi as my monitor is gsync only so I’m stuck with getting Nvidia until I replace that. I paid £600 3 years ago and don’t see me replacing it for another few years.

Not a chance you're getting a 20Gb for anywhere near £700.
wasn't meaning what ppl are paying for a 3080 on OC was more aiming that comment at ppl on the likes of eBay and the prices ppl are paying for the cards on there, sorry didn't really make myself clear.

Same for me. High refresh 1440p, and perhaps I'll dabble in 4K60 here and there. 10GB is plenty. Plus, I think a 20GB version would be at least £150-200 more expensive. Sod that.

the gigabyte aorus xtreme is £910 on here.and the 3090 version is £1700. given the fact a 20gb is only 4gigs less then a 3090, That prob puts the lowest tier cards at or around £1100-£1200 So for an xtreme 3080 20gb.

You're making the mistake of thinking the £1400+ prices for the 3090 are determined by the 24GB, it's not. Its mostly determined by artificial market positioning & Nvidia knowing what a bunch of suckers so many PC Gamers are, with their willingness to pay idiotic amounts of money for their e-peen obsession.

Nvidia can't respond to AMD's cards with 16GB of Vram with a 20GB one of their own, at nearly twice the price. Forget about the 3090, that exists in a world of its own pricing stupidity. A 20GB 3080 is all about keeping people from going AMD, and the only way they will do that is with price.

Why would NVidia launch a 20gb version of the 3080 when they can not make and supply remotely close to enough 10gb versions.

This madness has shown you don't need stock to sell the cards. Plus they will be worried about customers who want more ram jumping on amd.

You guys wanting a 20GB 3080 better watchout! @TNA and the other "10gb is more than enough" fanatics will be this thread with pitchforks soon, as they claim 10GB is fine for 4k for the 3080's 2 year + lifespan!!!

This is despite evidence that Doom Eternal already NEEDS 9GB to run 4k max, and Flightsim 2020 which also needs more than 10GB for smooth operation.

Defend yourselves!

Someone else who doesn't understand how the Vram works on the 3080 *golfclap, really cant be arsed to try and educate you, go read up on how it works then come back and we can pretend you didn't look stupid.

im pretty sure the extra vram chips is the main reason why the 3090 was so much more then the 3080. they even state it on there artical saying vram makes it expensive. it makes perfect sense that a 20gb will be no different. I highly doubt its going to be under £1k..and the top models will for sure be over 1k. the top model 3080s were £100 short of 1k.

I'm curious as to what kind of volumes GDDR6 and 6X are available in and whether that is having an impact on availability as well. Also wondering if the reason they've held back the 3070 launch is so they can potentially delay it again and tweak the VRAM amount if AMD come out with something that has more VRAM at the 3070 spot.

Possible as with 5X nVidia has taken on risk production of 6X.

If they go ahead and launch a superior version before some people even get the 3080 they already paid for...There should be rioting in the streets. I wont be happy with that so soon. If so why bother launching the 10gb version at all

Because it'll be fine in terms of vRAM usage, and a 20Gb version will be more akin to the prosumer 3090 kinda tier where that memory is basically not necessary for gaming, as has been said the 3090 is not a "gaming" card. Any benefit a 3080 20Gb or Ti variant could possibly get is if they also increase the core clocks or number of CUDA cores in the chip. Either way the additional 10Gb of GDDR6x vRAM is going to set you back probably £100 extra plus whatever premium they add on, for basically zero benefit.

Suspect the memory is not the issue and not too difficult to add more modules. Rather producing the rest of the card, lack of stockpile etc. If Navi comes out with more VRAM then the 3080 10GB, would not surprise me to see Nvidia wanting to one up AMD's highest end gaming GPU (ignoring the 3090 which is in a different category).

I doubt that they will release new cards this year. Going with May at the earliest.

May which year? :)

I think it all depends upon AMD. If the RX 6000 series is a damp squib performance-wise then they won't bother; if the RX 6000 series is a contender then they'll announce the next day and switch production.
