3080 FTW Ultra poor improvement over 1080ti FTW

When i built this rig with 6700k, amd were not competitive. Now a lot of people seem to running them, praising them etc. Ill probably pick up a 5900x if I can get one. Just looking at boards etc now.

i might be in the same boat as you.. im on an i7 7700k though. so maybe not . i was looking at the x570 asus crosshair viii hero..i love the look of that gigabyte aorus xtreme though..but that is nearly as expensive as the blood gigabyte aorus xtreme 3080 i preorderd.

Im not worried about RGB and stuff. Looking at Tomahawks atm, need to learn chipset differences. Dont care about Wifi either

I ran it with Lasso, hyperthreading off, bitsum max power mode, and tried again with Induce Performance Mode. Didnt make much difference, only a few FPS, not enough to be sure it wasnt just a change of weather in game etc.
Fullscreen is now working properly, Id imagine a bug with Tarkov. So in menu i get 400 fps now with 3080. Still the same in game though.

Tried 0.5 x sampling, fps stayed within a few fps. So as you've all said, think its safe to say the cpu is the issue. Compounded by Tarkov being a poorly optimised game.

Yeah, i'm running a 3700x and it's still reletively bad for me. It's just Tarkov unfortunately.

In honesty pairing it with a 6700k cpu was only ever going to give the result your getting dude @ 1440 - cpu bottlenecking from hell :D
Grats on getting your card though but you won’t get the best out of it until you upgrade your board and cpu is the reality

I guess AMD is an option like some of you have said. I just default to Intel, as not used AMD since Athlon FX days, so know nothing about them currently. Would mean I can use the PCIE4 drives too i guess.
Well you're in luck, the AMD 5000 series released on the 5th of November will be faster in gaming than Intel's best.

hi... sorry for hijacking this topic.. ;)

yesterday i got my msi ventus3x 3080 GPU

my system is:
Medion Erazer X5317
Intel i7-6700K 4.00 Ghz (OC 4.2Ghz)
16GB DDR-4 Ram
Powersupply APS-1000CB 1000W
Gigabyte GeForce GtX 1080 G1

so... i went from gtx 1080 to rtx 3080...

at the moment, i mainly play CoD warzone. with my old card, i was seeing fps numbers (in 1440p, medium or high settings) between 40 and 70 i would say...

now... with the 3080, i play in 1440p everything on high / enabled (only raytracing is off) and i'm seeing numbers arround my monitor max refresh rate (144hz)... well... sounds perfect...

the problem is, i only see such numbers on campaign or training mode... warzone mode still is arrount 50-60... i did a little research before buying and i saw, that the 6700k is no THAT much of a problem (campaign mode proves this i guess)..

any ideas, why i have almost 100!!! fps less in warzone mode than offline?

thanks!!

6700K is 4 cores and 8 threads. Max Turbo Frequency 4.20 GHz. Even at 4,805 MHz you will see a CPU Score of 5 915 in timespy. CPU is not the best and will affect gaming performance, if it was me and I had the money I would replace the CPU. Wait until AMD's new CPU's are released. Or get a 10700k and overclock it to 5GHz or above. https://siliconlottery.com/pages/statistics https://www.overclockers.co.uk/8pac...i7-10700k-5.0ghz-gaming-bundle-bu-01y-8p.html Ask for a better motherboard. ATM you are getting over 60fps in games you play which means this is not a big deal. My 2cents anyway.

I know someone with a 1080Ti FTW3 who plays flight sims and his 6500 bottlenecks him, so I recommended he get a 5600X, it's ~40% faster on single thread, 5800/5900 should be even better.

I went from a 1800X to 3600XT, no idea if it will be enough for a 3080 in most titles though but I'd rather wait for AM5 before replacing the mobo.

cause multiplayer hits the cpu harder

overclock your cpu to 5ghz and overclock your ram and see if that helps

3080 only really shines at 4K or higher resolution. Improvement from 1080ti or 2080+ at lower resolutions was always going to be marginal. Is due to parallelism of the architecture. If you're able to test Tarkov at higher resolutions you'll probably see the FPS will only drop a tiny amount from what you're seeing at 1440p.

thanks for the answers!

but i can't believe it hits the cpu THAT hard!
before i bought the GPU, i watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJfhYOk1XMo
they test an 3080 with all core i7 gen cpus! (1st to 10th gen)

starting at timestamp 4:18 they play warzone (online mode not CoD campaign)

an i7 6700k scores an average 197 fps at 1080/high and 151 fps at 1440/high
an i7 10700 scores 220 fps and 173.

it is a difference between 6700k and 10700 but never high enough to swap cpu.
especially because i have a 1440/144 monitor and can't really see any difference above 144 fps anyway! lol

so i wunder why my i7 6700 scores like 40-60 instead of 151 in 1440/high?? there must be something else than just the cpu...?

any other ideas? thanks!

edit: whoever built my PC back then.:mad:.. the RAM weren't in dual channel mode... i just changed that...
did pretty well i guess... campagin mode up to 200 fps or even more in 1440/high...
shadow of the tombraider benchmark at 1440/ultra went up from average 66 to 99!
warzone is now between 70 and 120... still pretty far away from 151 though... ?

A look at the comments and I see someone post: 'The first generation i7 processor does not include AVX Instruction Set Extensions, which is what Horizon Zero Down needs. How did you manage to measure the result?'

So yeah probably some fake BS for clicks :p

Tarkov only uses 4 cores, so your 60% load means your cpu is completely maxed out and was using the 1080ti as well. At launch Tarkov could only use 3 cores. You need faster cpu cores first, GPU upgrade should only come after you have done that. The Witcher 3 result shows you what a game optimised to use up to 12 cores will do with your hardware.
