rtx 3080 20gb coming Dec

Was waiting on the 3080 20gb pricing before deciding what card to buy, bow though with all the stock issues I'll probably just end up buying the first one that's available.

Perhaps you hadn't noticed the number of crashing 3080s, which have been explained as driver issues or the number of hot fixes for the hot fixes :D

To be fair I never had any crashes with my Trinity with the original release drivers, I'm guessing it was because of overclockability on some cards for eg mine can do +80 core whereas some that can't get much when it was spiking the clock speeds with the original drivers and crashing them to desktop.

Explains why the -50 -100 worked for a lot of people.

Personally taking manufacturing capacity away from 10G fulfilment when there are still thousands of cards on back order is terrible marketing and terrible management overall.

£830 10Gb and £850 20Gb. You're being silly now. The Asus Tuf is £719.

Thats the Asus RUF. You are ignoring the point that some 3080s are £830 and they wont even be the most expensive ones (EVGA kingpin, MSI lightening, Asus white)

Same with the 3070. The Asus strix OC 3070 is reported to be £669. Why would anybody buy that if they "could" buy a 3080 at the list price of £649 or under?

You're making the mistake of thinking the £1400+ prices for the 3090 are determined by the 24GB, it's not. Its mostly determined by artificial market positioning & Nvidia knowing what a bunch of suckers so many PC Gamers are, with their willingness to pay idiotic amounts of money for their e-peen obsession.

Nvidia can't respond to AMD's cards with 16GB of Vram with a 20GB one of their own, at nearly twice the price. Forget about the 3090, that exists in a world of its own pricing stupidity. A 20GB 3080 is all about keeping people from going AMD, and the only way they will do that is with price.

Indeed and we alreadly know with 100% certainty that there are going to be 16Gb 3070ti cards. Seems strange to have your flagship 3080 card only having 10gb memory.

Clearly Nvidia thought AMD would only be competing with the 3070 cards and wanted a 16Gb card so they could match AMD if they went with 16Gb.

IF and I mean IF AMD are really competing with 3080s and even 3090s, a 16Gb 3070 wont be enough.

Plus some manufacturers redemption sites for the game even lists 3080 20Gb cards and the redemption runs out on 30th November so clearly AIBS are expecting to be making and selling 20gb 3080 cards before end of November.

But AMD turns out to be a failure and only competes with the 3070 then I only expect to see 16gb 3070ti cards. Next year Nvidia will launch a 3080ti with more memory and more cores unlocked just to make all the 3090 owners feel sick (repeat of the 1080ti vs Titan)

dam it..the more i hear about this 20gb version the more im thinking to cancel my preorder.. no update on que either last update i had was a week ago and i was 144 for a aorus xtreme 3080

@morta

I'm 13th in queue for a 3080 aorus xtreme hope this gives you abit more clarity that you could be waiting ages as im within the top 20 orders and have had zero communication on when to expect it other than my queue position email. Now i dont mined waiting but some update on when they expect shipment or estimate a how many more weeks/months .. As i am considering other options when available if i dont have mine when the 20gb 3080 is up for preorder.

That’s just it, they don’t really know how many they’re going to get compared to how many they’ve ordered until they get word from either the courier or the distributor.

I think the 3070 offers half the memory bandwidth of the 3080 due to it being GDDR6 only. Another reason to avoid.

What's your source for that rumour? If true, would be the 3080ti, as TSMC's 7nm process is much better than the 8nm process Samsung use.

I read it all over the net over the weekend. Some people are wondering if the 3080 20g/3080ti would be done on it this year but doubt they can move that quick but certainly leaves it wide open for a £1000 3080ti with better boosts and faster memory to come out next spring.

Until there are ample stocks of the standard 3080 they shouldn’t be launching any other cards IMO, especially if it takes production away from 3070 or 3080.

But the current 3080 isn't the card people wanted, a 16-20gb version is.

Well I am after a card that provides a decent RT performance. The 3080 barely does this. Nothing today needs more than 10GB. The consoles have 16GB total, wich gives a sensible split of 6GB OS+APP+DATA and 10GB graphics, indeed the new XBOX is split 6 and 10GB. The way GPUs get data is changing to streaming thus reducing the amount of VRAM required. So 10GB will do for the lifespan of the GPU, you will need a better GPU before you need more VRAM. Or you will be turning settings down in the future to maintain FPS, but also with the result you use less VRAM.

Maybe people just don't know enough about what they are purchasing.

Yet there are still hundreds if not thousands of people waiting for cards nationwide in the UK alone and probably tens of thousands worldwide waiting on cards being delivered.

but if the Big Navi matches the 3080 in performance and offers 16Gb, Nvidia will swap production just like that.

That’s my point, they shouldn’t BE producing anything but 3080 10G models while there are 50,000+ worldwide still waiting on a card that ‘launched’ a month ago.

That's how I feel. What kind of message does it send to customers who've been waiting since mid September otherwise?

Why would NVidia launch a 20gb version of the 3080 when they can not make and supply remotely close to enough 10gb versions.

Not this year but next year when production and supply issues are sorted out I can see it happening especially as it would be halfway through the generation cycle and time for a refresh. Its not like they havn't done it before.

"could" lol. Better buy a lottery ticket. Nvidia aren't going to make it that easy for you to get an FE.
