A DRINK-DRIVER was made to forfeit his Mitsubishi pick-up truck as part of his sentence (Guernsey)

Been behind loads of idiots on the motorways either driving slowly or wandering about while on their phones, also some should not be allowed to carry passengers, the number of times I have been behind a car behaving erratically and the driver is talking to the passenger beside them and they can't seem to talk without looking at them instead of concentrating on the road

Out of interest, what happens to the truck? Presumably they just auction it off?
I hope they don't dispose of it, seems a waste.

Thought I was on youtube for a moment with that capitalisation in the title...

You wont BELIEVE what this DRINK DRIVER did on an ISLAND!!!!

It doesn't solve the problem of convicted drink drivers getting into another car and driving that. This seems to be a growing problem and over the past couple of years we have had a huge increase up here of repeat offenders getting caught drink driving while still banned for their last conviction, some of them multiple times. The penalties need to be much harsher rather than a small fine and another 18 months ban which they won't take any notice of. If you get caught drink driving whilst already banned for drink driving then they need to be sent straight to jail.

Hammer to fingers!!

They seize them as a matter of course here, and you have to pay between £200 - £800 to get the car back depending on where you got caught, plus a daily rate for however long they've had to store it before you could pick it up. You also have to pay any outstanding fines or taxes that are associated with the vehicle before they'll release it. Plenty of people can't afford that, so there are storage compounds full of cars that have been sitting there for literally years, including a lot of classic / quite interesting stuff. If you earn a decent salary it's not much of a punishment though, and the drink drive checkpoints are incredibly easy to avoid. It makes sense in a way, because if you're so drunk that you don't notice the checkpoint in time, you definitely deserve to have your car taken off you :p
