upgrading and selling old parts to my brother

Hi all,

My brother currently has no PC at all as his old laptop is nearly dead. So he is looking to buy some of my current parts and buy some new parts to put it in. He will need a new case as I will be keeping my Phanteks enthoo pro m.
He would like a case like mine as it holds a space for a optical drive and only has one slot so it doesnt take much room in the case. My case is a little expensive for him but he would stretch to it if he had to. Are there other cases that would fit his criteria at a lower price? mine is near 100 pounds on OC.
He will be taking my 4770k, MSI GD65 motherboard and team group vulcan ddr3 2400mhz ram and I will probably give him my enermax t40 cpu cooler as I cant find a AM4 mounting kit for it so I would likely need a new cooler.
In my case can I fit AIO radiators at the top? Its just that im considering buying one as I have seen 2018 corsair hydro H60 AIO at good prices and I believe from what I have been reading rival top air coolers in performance. If I go air the Noctua u14s is looking my favourite.
Im also wondering whether to sell my gpu to him as well (MSI rx480 8gb) and look to get something else but not sure.
Any recommendations on which GPU I should upgrade to from this? A lot of the newer cards only come with 6gb ram but are gddr 6 instead of gddr 5 on my current card. If i dont sell my current card I recommended the 1660 super to him as that seems to be the current go to card.

Also what psu and size would you recommend for my brother? preferably I would like him to get a modular psu as they are easier to build with. Also could you recommend any cable extenders as in my current build some of them barely reach their target.
 
Your case.

Looking at the specs you can mount a single to a triple radiator in the top of it so the H60 will fit easily but why bother with only a single??
The silverstone range are cheap and cheerful and come in a few colours if your after a theme.

The 480 is a bit old but still good for 1080p gaming. You will probably need about a 600watt psu if your going to give the 480 to your brother. Buy yourself the 1660 super. It should be about 35% faster than the 480. Alternatively a second hand 5700/xt or 2060/2070/super will be even better depedns upon your budget of course.
 
The case is interesting. It states one 5 inch bit for the odd but looks like it has space for more? Or is the extra space for hdd's
 
I had been looking at the KOLINK psu as well but I have no idea on their quality. I've not heard of them until now. One review I have seen did give it a decent write up.

The 3 year warranty speaks volumes.

Why not sell the whole lot and start again, you know everything works fine. You could run into a lot if problems swapping things out.

Yes it does look like an internal 5.5" drive but I have no idea what its useful for.

Obviously if you're wanting to put a 3070 or 3080 into your rig or something you'll want a 650-750W depending on the rest of your system.

For low powered cards like a 1660S the 550W TXM would be more than ample.

The OP wants modular thats why I ignored the seasonic and formula psus. Modular definatly ups the price .

Yeah, unfortunately.

If the case he's running has a PSU shroud it's not really going to impact the look, I'd rather have to faff with the cables a little more and have a better PSU personally.

The zalman I specced doesnt have a shroud. Cases are best chosen by the one whos going to have it as they are really personal to taste.

@Gray2233 I agree a bit more agro with cables for a better psu quality :)
 
My main concern is that with non modular psu is that you get cables hanging all over the place where you don't need them. If some cables struggle to reach and you have other half connected to them it gets messy and blocks air flow.
 
XFX ATX 550 Power Supply - P1550SXXB9 I still have one of these as a backup psu that I bought for £50 back in 2013. I think it was 80 plus or 80 plus bronze rated back then. I think people were saying it was a rebranded seasonic at the time.
 
**B Grade** Silverstone Strider 1200W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (SST-ST1200-G) is what I currently have in my build. I got this for £80 on the b grade section back in 2014. I bought it with running crossfire in mind but crossfire and SLI pretty much started to die by this point so I gave up on the idea. So I don't really want to start again as I have parts I want to keep. The Phanteks Enthoo Pro m was a bargain from the b grade section as well. I got it for £35 plus another 10 for 2 more of the phanteks fans to mount at the front and £5 for an extra ssd mount. I really like the case so I want to keep that to. I can't believe how much that case has gone up in a year. I'm sure it was only £60 brand new this last year.

got with a semi modular... 24pin and cpu 8pin plus sometimes pcie cables are attached .. and the rest is modular.. EVGA GQ series for example
 
Just an update. We have been busy. Well, I have. Last night I bought myself a MSI X570 tomahawk as it had £30 off from a German rainforest. Today I bought for my brother the phanteks enthoo Pro m case like mine as it had £10 off here at OCuk and bought another of the phanteks case fans just to add to the front intake as I have with my own. Also from the b grade section he liked the look of the gigabyte rtx 2070 8gb for £320. Yes it's overkill for 1080p as he doesnt have a monitor that goes above 60hz but wanted something he could hold onto for a long time. We are going to see if my old XFX 550w 80 plus bronze will do the trick as in the specs for the 2070 it suggests 550w and above.
