What’s the point of OC the 3080 if pretty much all games crash

I’ve been playing around with the boost settings on the precision X1 I’m finding that in time spy I can push my card to around 1950mhz with no issues , but when I try these settings on games like RDR2 or MSFSim2020 as soon as the card boosts itself over 2100mhz I get a system crash

Evga gaming edition with latest nvidia drivers , odd thing is when I first tried games they worked , turned on pc today they just crash.

Nvidia literally released a driver to stop cards auto boosting over 2100mhz since it is unstable. Why would you think that manually overclocking beyond this was a good idea? Besides, even when cards were overclocked online with extreme cooling and custom BIOS the performance increase was negligible. Just run it at stock or with an offset that keeps you under 2075mhz

Ok that’s cool how do I stop it boosting over 2100mhz ?

These cards are so odd really confusing the hell out of me , currently playing RDR2 on vulkan around 48-60 FPS 4k ultra , If I change to DX12 ( Should run better ) same game settings my FPS drops to 30 FPS WTF lol

Vsync/ triple buffering being on or off for one or the other would be my guess

Could be some sort of full screen mode in DX12 that locks V-sync on. Try windowed fullscreen, turning off V-sync in the Nvidia control panel or Googling the problem. Doubt that is the fault of the GPU.

Regarding staying under 2100mhz: update to the latest Nvidia driver, check how high it goes with no overclock then take that value off 2100mhz. That number minus 10 should be your maximum core offset

What offsets are you using? If it's too high it'll boost higher during different loads while gaming and Spike higher causing it to crash.

I wouldn't bother overclocking the core.

Just set the fan at something like 65c and turn power target all the way up.

If you want to overclock try adding a bit to the memory.

Looks like the new layout (1 MLCC+5 SP-CAP), I'd just leave it at default, it auto-boosts anyways, I only bought an OC card because I want it sooner.

To be fair played a few games now on default and it Auto boosts to around 1870mhz , bit scamy really having an ultra edition that does the same as my gaming edition, well at least I know it will hit 2100mhz with no issues.
