Am I just unlucky? PC Build.

Hi all, I've been around for a long while and have been building PCs most of my life.

Recently I really splurged out and started building my first PC.

10900k, Asus Xii Hero and a 1200w Corsair PSU alongside other goodies like 3600mhz corsair vengeance ram.

Built everything and it wouldn't post. Took it out the case, took everything apart from it and it wouldn't post. The codes changed numerous times, I got 00 a lot. Some of the error codes I had were "Reserved for" with no outcome before it ended up going to 00. I tried clearing CMOS, only having CPU and cooler in it, bios flash back, nothing got this thing to post.

Phoned up OcUK who suggested RMAing them to mobo and they would replace it. I got the new mobo, tried it out of the case and again I kept getting the 00. I had almost given up then it kicked in to life, it posted! I tested each stick of RAM to confirm it worked, all appeared to be good. Put it all in to the case, installed Windows and life was good, I played games all day and had a lot of fun.

Next day I turned on the PC.... error code 00, again. I spent about a hour in the case taking things out, plugging them in etc and still 00. Took it out, tried just the board, CPU and cooler and it wouldn't get past 00. After about 2 odd hours of troubleshooting I gave up.

I'm going to phone up OcUK to talk to them but what do you think it can be? Am I an idiot? How can the PC work for a day then just go nope. Looking online the 00 means either faulty mobo, cpu or PSU.

This really has knocked my confidence for building PCs and I'm sat here with thousands in PC parts just pulling my hair out :(
 
Sounds awful man, such high end parts and to be having those issues :/

Hang in there though, as the code suggests it must be the CPU or PSU now... did you pull the CPU and check out the pins etc?

Honestly mate I've never been so stressed in my life!

Yea' I did try and reseat the CPU, I checked all the pins on the mobo and none are bent, checked under the CPU and all looks fine, no thermal paste or apparent scratches or anything :(
 
Code 00 is ususlly caused by three things, a faulty psu, motherboard or cpu.

You've changed the motherboard did you update the bios ?

I bet but at the end of the day it is just a faulty component causing it which cant be avoided completely from any manufacturer.
You have already ruled out 1/3 of them so keep at it... dont you have another PSU you could test with?

Hi mate, thanks for your reply. I did indeed update the bios. You know after you do the bios flash back when it loads you get the "Do not turn off machine" or whatever message, it won't even get to that point, it just turns off after 2-3 seconds with 00.

Hi mate, I know but it still is a knock but you're right it can happen! I sadly don't have another PSU, I've spoken to OcUK who letting me RMA the CPU and PSU, so fingers crossed when they turn up it's going to be smooth sailing :)

Im sure you will be fine by then, I have the same setup just build a month ago... you're gonna love it.

All sorted now, OcUK tested and said that the CPU posted fine in their machine. They sent me a different PSU and worked perfectly fine first time :D
 
Troubleshooting is a nightmare when you don't have a myriad of spare parts sat on a shelf to assist. Can be a long process, sounds like you got sorted quickly and efficiently.
