It keeps over filling how do I adjust?
 
something in your cistern probably rises with the water when it gets to a certain height the lever or whatever its attached to pushes a button that stops the water.

adjust the arm or whatever is moving so it stops the water at an earlier point..

surely you can figure it out?

Theres normally a float on the body nowadays. But without a decent pic. I can't tell what hes got to pint in the right direction
