So iracing has been great. I've got a quest 2 and started iracing vr... Yay.
Anyway getting huge frame problems mid point on most tracks. Turns out my gpu is dropping usage to like 50%.
This turns out to be a hyper threading iracing issue. So turning off hyperthreading makes me have a consistent frame rate but of course my pc is slower, iracing has tiny little frame drops barely noticeable unlike the hyper threaded ones which are awful.
I was planning a new gpu when I can get one of the new ones but now do I need a new cpu? Jeeze Dont go vr people.

VR will be taking in a lot of data, this plus the game will probably spool up a lot of threads. Maybe try turning down the settings and overclocking the chip.

Sorry cpu is running at 4.7
These frame drops seem to happen whatever settings. Same corner each time round and the frame rate halves. Gpu usage halves.
So far seen it at 2 tracks and both have it at exact same point. Tried turning everything up and down to no avail.

Iracing has inbuilt meters for CPU and GPU utilisation, For VR they will automatically turn Red when below the required frame time for 90hz or whatever the frame limiter is set to, Turn those on and check which is the issue.

Iracing has always had problems at certain points in tracks, especially new ones. Particular ones are final corner at Imola as it loads all the objects on the main straight. Nurburgring GP circuit, tsukuba circuit in its entirety

What's cpu usage like. You haven't mentioned that?
If your under 100% until that point in the game... its time to upgrade.

The old i7's are towing in a lot of games. I sold mine 2years ago when BF1 would max it out and stutter like mad

Thanks for the help so far, id previously on a differnt track been looking at cpu usage and was always at like 50%
Tried it just now and the same is still true. medium settings, high settings its always aroung the 50%
It more clearly the gpu, its peaking at times at 99-100. The cpu doesnt seem to be struggling at all, i renabled hyperthreading for the test run. So i got the big hit problem but I want it enabled as it didnt exactly run smooth with it.
Iracing break till new gpu :(

So im sticking with plan A of buying a new fancy gpu then see how it runs, Unless someone knows something i dont?

iracing and other sims don’t scale with cores. Max out your core but also your mem. Then in vr, you’ll hit a wall quickly with your 980ti. VR is taxing on all components.

I run AC (not ACC) on a Pimax 5k at 120hz. This needs a 9900k at 5.2ghz and mem at c16 4400mhz with every timing hand tuned and a 2080ti oc’d. It’s still not enough.
