Pretty sure Zen3 will sweep the board when it comes to gaming, by how much though ... no idea - gonna stick my neck out and say 10% over the top gaming chip at the moment.

Stock for Stock and both paired with 3600 CL14 memory, my guess is the 5900x will be 10% faster than the 10900k in games and 5950x 12% faster in games

Overclocking will make it more interesting, I think there is still room for Intel to come back if users are prepared to fork out more money.

For instance, if someone really wants a 10900k and still wants to claim they have the fastest gaming CPU they should:

* Buy a pre binned 5.4ghz all core 10900k
* Build a custom water loop to cool it
* Buy 4400 CL17 memory and overclock it further if you can

Do this and your 10900k might still be the fastest - but it's gonna cost you an extra $1000usd over the 5950x build

My guess is a 5800x will be a couple of percent faster than a 10900k. It will definately be a very close battle.

5800X £428.99
10900K £559.99

Why is everyone saying than Intel is slightly cheaper though? Which products are they comparing?

Looks like AMD are being modest with boost clock numbers this time.

This is impressive but also annoying.
Impressive how they went from boost being 50Mhz under advertised value to this, most of the tine 100-140MHz above it.
Annoying that 5800x is so much below top clocks. Feels like artificial limitation

I have similar expectations however i do think we might be surprised that the 10900k will be smashed by more than just a few% hear and there.
The big 12 and 16 core monsters do seem very powerful but of course ... wait for reviews.

That said, really i do not see anything from Intel coming back at Zen3 for at least 12 months... not even close.

Im currently considering, 5600x + 3060ti upgrade or a 3600 (hopefully b.friday sale) + 3070. I play at 1080p 144hz and would like to achieve this framerate on as many games as possible.

I know the real answer is wait for benchmarks but since the 3070 stock situation might be difficult, im wondering what you guys would consider. (mb is b550).

and you do the same with amd ryzen and its still faster and cheaper

I think you would need to hit over 7ghz before the 10900 would beat the 5950.

Edit: Ah for games. I think the game would have to be well optimised for 10c 20t Even then I’m not sure if 5.4Ghz would be enough.

Finally some Geekbench 4 Single Core numbers I can directly compare against:

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/15825034 5900x with 4266mhz RAM
https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/15804594 9900k at 5.2ghz with 4400mhz RAM (HT off. my daily)

Of course we don't know the timings and IF tuning of the Zen 3 chip but it seems to be really strong in Crypto and FP but still seems to have the latency hit of previous generation.

We do the latency is 73ns = crap ;)

I get 6k and 50k with 3900x and tuned 3600 ram.

What do you guys think would be the difference between the 3900X and say the 5600x or 5800x in performance. I am building my new PC with Strix X570-E motherboard and am on a very strict budget for each component, CPU £350 max give or take a very small margin.
Go for the 3900X or wait for 5600x/5800x.

Thanks in advance folks.

this is as much as we know at this time

Edit: Any particular reason to go with Strix X570-E?
I'm sure you can find a good B550 board much cheaper. Or a x570 Tomahawk

What do you mean by 'in performance'? What applications? In single threaded stuff the 5600X will be faster than the 3900X, in fully threaded stuff the 3900X be faster, probably also faster than the 5800X too.

And, the Strix X570-E is an unnecessarily expensive board for strict budget.
