Friendly people of the OCUK Forum, here looking to unlock some of your combined knowledge and brilliance.

(as to not mislead you I actually came here to join the 3080 Queue Legendary thread, but it looks like a nice place to stay).

So I’m debating how to proceed with a new build (if you can call it that). Bit of background.

2 kids, gaming mad!
Just finished a nice system for the younger of the two:

corsair rgb case, i9 10850, vengeance ram 32g 2966hz, Samsung 970plus Evo 500gb, NZXT z63 liquid cooler (I know the lcd is just a gimmick, but she’s gonna have fun with it and tbf it does a good job at cooling). Strix 850 PSU.

The only thing I scrimped on was the card. Reused a 1070GTX (got to leave them something to work for). And heck, should be fine for building boxes around people and shooting them in the head or pickaxing them to death.

Love the Evo plus by the way, highly recommend – so fast it goes back in time – tasks finish before you start them!

So now my thoughts turned to my elder……

He has an hp Omen system which we’ve upgraded along the way. Additions which still have value -> 2080Super, 750W corsair PSU, Hyper RAM 2400mhz 32gb and im considering re-using in a build….

Corsair 500D RGB SE – check

MSI Tomahawk Z490 – check

I9 10900k – check

1 TB 970 Evo plus M2. – check

MSI Trio 3080 – don’t know what’s happening with that OC? Waiting to get some news from Gabbo!

Probably going with a corsair H100i cooler (not sure this supports the LGA1200 though)

Decision to be made:

Can I reuse the corsair 750w PSU. Was thinking that if we do get the 3080 card – this might be a bit light.

Can I reuse the RAM for now? 2400 mhz doesn’t sound much slower than the 2966 factory. Should be ok for now?

Should I cancel the 3080 order and salvage the 2080? Pay for the above unknowns.

Any thoughts welcome! Have a great day.

keep the PSU
i would get at least 3200mhz ram or try to overclock yours ..
2080 is still a good gpu (1080ti owner here :) )

gpu upgrade depends on the monitor.. what you have?

What model is the corsair power supply, is it a gold standard and how old is it?

Ram can be reused I think as long as it is DDR4.

I would keep the 3080 on order, especially if you got it at a good price.
The 2080 can be used in your daughters machine.

Thank You Shaolin.
TX750M 80 Gold Plus cert. 12 month old 7 year guarantee? Seems good, just will it be enough power for the 3080 and the 10900k?

Should be fine as Nvidia recommendeds a 750w power supply for the 3080.
Nvidia also list a 10900K as being used to test for power draw and is listed in the small print on their website.

its been tested now by quite a few.. 650w quality uni is enough for 3080 and 10900k but no OC.. if you want to overclock than i would suggest 750w or 850w

Please check the manufacturers website for the graphics card you are looking to buy as some 3080's require an 850w power supply,
just saw a video of an evga card using 490w when using the overclock bios.
So best to check first.

Manufacturers always suggest a way to high power supply... obviously you want to have some safety buffer but it doesn't need to be 50% :>
