ridiculously high RTX 3070 (overclocked) prices

most retailers are selling them at similar prices. until there's sufficient availability they'll most likely do that

Who would buy this though, with the RTX 3080 FE potentially having stock availability 'soon'? It's just blatant greed in my view.

i doubt there will be enough 3080 FE's in stock 'soon' to cover for the demand. considering retailers that did preorders are still struggling to honour the orders that came in the first hours after the release for both 3080 and 3090

Tbf there are some people who will pay for the premium coolers and it's Asus who'll be pricing this high (the Strix is an *awesome* cooler though). They're only catering to the market, FE's for the rest of us :)

Not sure why its a suprise. Other AIB models for the bigger brothers are also more expensive and not just here (though they do seem few notes higher). These cards will sell out for better or worse. You mention as its more expensive the the 3080 FE, reality is not everyone wants to wait for what is effectively gold dust, more so with some big upcoming games combined being stuck in doors. The FE model goes in and out within seconds.

On the FE model, I suspect we will only ever see limited numbers at least for next few months that will sell out in seconds, price wise I expect given the quality of materials, the FE model costs more then other AIB models to produce thus depress margins. Onle reason Nvidia is going to only produce token amounts so they can press the marketing price point.

So yeah agree, 3080FE for that sort of money is a absolute no brainer, Perform better and look like its made by someone other then a child. But as it stands with lack of any supply and demand being massive, not surprised with inflated prices they sell out. If sales drop and people stop buying, then prices go down.

Nah, the higher tier consoles are all 4K, thats the direction of games in the next few years at least.

Resolution in between 1080p and 4k seems a bit meh

Pretty sure they are doing high refresh monitors soon with 4K displays (with new HDMI tech).

The design of the AIB models is often in the same vein.
