Should I return EVGA 3080 Black and try to find 3080 FE?

After weeks of trying, failing and frustration,I managed to order an EVGA XC3 3080 Black for £700 arriving next week.
however I was only after FE edition and EVGA just happened to be available today when I was looking,it was an impulse buy.
as strange as it sounds,I feel it might not be a great board and I'm thinking about cancelling the order and try to find an 3080 FE next week or whenever they are dropped again.

Obviously I can just sell the EVGA instead (and make some profit too),but I just don't like dealing with such headache and risk reselling something like this in this time.

what do you think?
Is it worth cancelling this card and hoping for a 3080 FE?
Anyone owns this card?
It looks very budget and rough, nothing like the clean, surdy design of FE and I never owned any EVGA brand product.

To be honest, that's not a bad price (relatively). May not be the pinnacle in PCB design, but I suspect its hardly having issues and bar the models with BIOS's that let you suck down loads of watts, or the bottom of barrel models which seem restricted in overclocking, I imagine performance will be broadly similar.

EVGA as a brand are alright, had number of products from them and the few times I had issues sorted it quick, abit when they had a UK RMA centre, now thing its germany only.

The FE does look better grant you that, but will be a battle to get it I expect. Went in and out rapidly and will do so again. If your okay in that you may not be likely to get a FE model and can live with waiting to get one, then sure send it back.

Yes,the price is actually very good,£40-£50 more than FE is not important really,it's basically the design of FE and it being known as most stable/reliable model that attracts me to it.
I think,I will wait until the EVGA arrives (next week) and see if I can pick a FE in the meantime.(highly unlikely) as I really don't want to deal with return / selling it after it arrives.

I don't think the FE model is any more stable or reliable to be frank then a solid aftermarket model. There was the issue a while back that afflicted all of them but seemed mostly related to drivers which has been nixed in the bud. On the reliability aspect, unless your looking to thrash these cards, in which case neither model has the best cooler, I expect either the FE or EVGA SKU will be fine.

makes sense, keep it wrapped up, try your hand next week with the FE and see how you get on.

The Black edition has no backplate. The regular version does and is otherwise the same. I would not personally buy the Black edition but the regular FTC3 is not bad, especially if you need a shorter card

[EDIT: I meant XC3, the FTW3 is the bigger EVGA cooler style]

What day and time does this typically happen?

seems to change slightly. Seems to be midweek thus far and and around midday, recent one was around midday for 3080 and 3090 abit after. I would look to get alerts or join one of those places which advise when they go in stock, few mentions in the FE thread. The literally go out in seconds for 3080.

from what I understand, all 3 version of EVGA are essentially the same, the XC3 Black has no backplate, the XC3 has backplate and XC3 Ultra has backplate,+more substantial RGB branding and Slightly higher boost clock.

I actually think black is the only one worth getting because the price is just around £50 more than FE, the Ultra and the other model are £100-£200 morethan Nvidia FE and offer nothing meaningful for the extra money.

imo no one should pay more than £50 over Nvidia reference model for meaningless OC and prettier RGB.

Reading more and more about FE,there seems to be quite a few complains about coil winning, also that cable placement and shape really ruins the clean, modern design of the card and stands out.so FE are not perfect either.

I think right now the best 3080 card is the one you can actually buy.

I will wait for my scheduled delivery next week and if Nvidia drops anymore FE in the meantime I will try to pick one, otherwise I’ll just keep the Black.

I like having a backplate but you are right that the XC3 cards are otherwise physically identical.

The FTW3 cards (bigger fans and height + plenty of RGB lighting) are likewise identical to each other but with different clocks. Sorry I muddled up the names earlier.

I was holding out for a FE like you and just ordered an Asus TUF 3080 OC as it was in stock for early December where I live (Switzerland). It barely fits my case but with some 180 degree adaptors for the 2x 8 pin PCI-E plugs it should just about squeeze in. And like the XC3 it has better thermals and less coil whine than the FE.
