Sharing Monitor/Audio between PC and PS5

Hi all,

Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this question:

I have been researching a new build for a while now and I will also be getting a PS5 (hopefully).

My original plan was to get a new TV just for the PS5 with seperate speakers/headphones. However to save space (and money) is it possible to share monitor and speakers with a Playstation? So I can easily switch between the two?

I assume the monitor would need two HDMI slots, one for the video card for pc and one for the PS5. The only issue is audio. Is there no easy way to use the pc speakers/headphones for the PS too.

It is probably an easy answer of "no" but while you are here can you recommend good headphones and speakers for both?

Thanks

You need a KVM switch there are lots but you need one that takes audio, monitor and usb devices depending on what you want to share.

PS5's DualSense controller has 3.5mm jack for headphones.
Though of course it could be used as source for speakers.

What's your budget for headphones and do you have noisy or quiet environment?

I haven't considered a budget yet but I do want something of good quality, €100-200 I guess, but open to suggestions. Its for my bedroom, so quiet enough but headphones for nightime I guess.

Ironically this is the kind of setup I'm looking for.

However as I'm only going by the PC for now, this all the information I have (and it's a fairly standard response that answers nothing in my eyes):

Hi not all gaming monitors come with speakers you would have to check the specs for the monitors you are looking at, audio can be both Display port and HDMi as they both have Audio and Visual data transfers unlike VGA and DVI which is just Visual Data, Also PC Gaming tend be played above 60FPS so investing in a 144hz Monitor would be ideal
In my eyes, it would be easier just to get a new TV and be done with it.

However, as the person that told me the quote said: your PC can output sound via HDMI (in my case I'm already using a TV as my monitor and am hearing sounds out of it).

If you're still on the look out for headphones after the above, I can recommend these which I use on my XBox One, and they come with a USB to 3.5mm jack for using on your PC: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...und-sound-cherry-ca-9011206-eu-sp-048-cs.html however someone else might recomend a higher quality/lower price set.

Speaker wise I was looking at Eris 4.5. I have 2.1 setup at the moment but the woofer is too large and taking up too much space, so I was thinking of a studio setup like the Eris or a nice Edifier.

Yea I was expecting a response kind of like that. I wouldn't get a monitor with speakers as they tend to be of low quality. As you say I may be better off just getting an extra TV.

You mean like a UGREEN 3 Port HDMI Switch, HDMI Input Cable Splitter Box Support 4K 3D 1080P?
Yes but if you want to share usb devices you would need to get one with that option.

I have just been looking at a few of them. They seem to be more geared to using 2 or more pcs on the one monitor etc
KVM switches can be used with any input such as Xbox PlayStation blue ray payers and more.

Ah I see. I am thinking would I experience a loss in audio quality if speakers are plugged into a KVM and accessed by either device that way as opposed to a direct connection?
Don't think so but I only have limited knowledge of kvm switches , it would be best to look into this.

@geekyadz that switch only does up to 1080p 60 Hz which would limit you monitor choice.

I would post a link to what I'm looking at (as it appears you're looking at something different) but where I want to post is "against the rules".

So here's part of the description and even the reviews say it is 4K:

Vision feast with 4K, with each HDMI port data rate up to 10.2Gbps, the HDMI switch supports Ultra Full HD resolution up to 4K (4096*2160) @30Hz, 1080P @60Hz and 3D display for you to catch every detail and never drops a frame while watch your favorite episode
From the description as well that also passes through sound.

Yes I get that it's a 3 input into 1 output HDMI "switch" (for want of a better way of putting it). However if OP gets a TV instead, they're going to be limited on the hz of the TV for the PC (which ironically is going to be the same amount of hz as what this uses as far as I can work out)

@geekyadz Your right it does do 4k my mistake but a max resolution of 4k 30hz is something you have to consider or get a better switch.
I think that's a TV standard so I think most HDMI switches like that are going to display 4K@30hz (which I agree is pretty poor).

Maybe @DublinDude is better off getting a PC gaming monitor and using headphones (like I used earlier) for audio?

Not sure what to do about me though :D
