Be aware of a scam being employed that preys on your impatience where you purchase a card off eBay for a considerable premium off eBay, pay using PayPal (So you assume you are safe) and receive tracked delivery details only to take delivery of a much lesser gpu and sign for delivery of it

You then have to prove that is what was delivered and argue against tracked delivery and a very prepared “seller” who will when asked produce an invoice showing they did indeed buy a new 3080 or 3090 that they insist they then sent to you - and that you signed for

I’ve heard of a number of horror stories and I’m told that a key sign is no recent selling feedback for a “seller”, especially if these scammers tell you they sell “lots of cards” as part of the cover story.

They will send pictures of the boxed cards and video footage and stills of chats with their “happy customers” and often encourage you to do the deal outside eBay for a bit less cash - still using PayPal (so you think your safe)

You’ll lose your money guys

Only make a purchase from someone with an extensive And recent feedback history of selling hardware

Be careful out there guys, don’t let your impatience end up getting you a two grand gtx 480.....

Problem is - those that will fall for this kind of thing won't listen to a post like this and those that do are generally clued up enough in the first place not to easily be scammed by the run of the mill scams.

In this current climate of high demand GPUs and their considerable value. I would not even consider popular auction or social purchasing sites. Far too risky.

Even if it does ‘look legit’. It’s just not worth it.

Ebay is very safe for buyers, cases are almost always sided in their favour and you have upto 6 months (with paypal) to return items.

Even if they are legit sellers. Having no warranty at all should be reason enough. If the card dies tomorrow you just lost 2k!
not sure i agree with that, most sellers will provide the purchase receipt and you can still register the card with the manufacturer

If you read the small print from many of the manufacturers regarding warranties being transferable (EVGA is an exception) that isn't the case. But ignore that if you wish.

Honestly I think you have to be mad to buy something like that from ebay. Half the time you aren't getting any sort of warranty, and sometimes you are aren't getting what you bought.

You just wouldnt buy a 3080 for 2x its retail price off Ebay anyway unless you are a) well off financially that you can take the risk or b) nuts.
